About this position
The Environmental and Social Solutions Unit (VPS/ESG) is responsible for ensuring that IDB financed projects and other activities are environmentally and socially sustainable and comply with the Bank’s environmental and social policies.
ESG has its own Information Management System (“ESG Compass”) adapted to the specific activities that performs the Bank and the Unit related to environmental and social aspects under the Innovation and Technology group of ESG. This system allows to have all information together in a customized tool developed in .NET.
We are looking for a highly motivated professional to join the ESG Operational Support Team. As an Innovation and Technology Consultant, you will be part of the Innovation and Technology group supporting the Unit in several of the initiatives to improve the support to operations.
What you’ll do
- Operational Needs Assessment: Conduct a thorough assessment of operational processes and identify areas where innovation and technology can enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and impact.
- Operational Strategy Development: Help to develop strategies for integrating innovation and technology solutions into operational workflows to streamline processes, reduce costs, and improve the unit’s outcomes. Support the database management of the quality assurance function internal to ESG (Governance).
- Support for Operations: Provide support for the implementation of innovation and technology initiatives, including planning, coordination, monitoring, and reporting. Evaluate emerging technologies and ideas to assess their applicability and potential impact on operational workflows and recommend adoption strategies tailored to operational needs. Support the Information Management system development (ESG Compass). Develop and implement strategies related to the use of data to make decisions at the unit level.
- Capacity Building for Operations: Develop and deliver training programs and workshops to build the capacity of operational staff in leveraging innovative technologies and tools to enhance their work processes. Support the team with ongoing activities and training material development of the communication site in SharePoint for ESG Compass.
- Performance Measurement and Improvement: Establish key performance indicators (KPIs) and metrics to measure the impact of innovation and technology initiatives on operational efficiency, effectiveness, and outcomes, and use data-driven insights to drive continuous improvement. Help getting data sets from the source for analysis. Prepare ad hoc reports on ESG data.
- Knowledge Sharing and Collaboration: Facilitate knowledge sharing and collaboration to exchange best practices, lessons learned, and success stories in leveraging innovation and technology to optimize operations.
What you’ll need
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in any of the following related fields: Computer Sciences, Information Technology, or related area. Masters Preferred.
- Experience: At least 4 years of relevant professional experience in with responsibilities in the development and/or implementation of information management systems, systems integrations, UX design or implementing new technologies.
- Languages: Proficiency in English and Spanish.
- Soft Skills: Self-management, flexibility, dependability, relationship building, results-driven, with strong communication skills. Focus on results.
- Technical skills: Proficient in IT systems, data analysis, and software development. Familiar with UX design, cloud computing, and AI. GIS. Aware of emerging technologies. Enables effective innovation and technology implementation, enhancing operational efficiency and organizational excellence. MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
Requirements
- Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries.
- Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

- Type of contract: International Consultant Full-Time.
- Length of contract: 9 months.
