Position Summary:

The UCI Paul Merage School of Business’ approach prepares students to adapt to the ever-changing business environment and face head-on the challenges brought on by disruption. To lead in the disruption of today and tomorrow, we need to understand these technologies and master their strategic implications. We accomplish this by using cutting-edge approaches and technologies through digital courses and program delivery. Our digital learning department spends dedicated time with faculty to develop digital courses that optimize student learning. With our Flex MBA classes and BA undergraduate online offerings, we are changing how our students take digital courses. Our digital learning team focuses on three overarching course design goals: creating synergies for minimizing transactional distance, incorporating diverse and inclusive opportunities for learning connections and designing active digital learning experiences. Digital learning at the Merage School is more than a convenience; it’s an experience. Just as the production of goods and services is changing in business, so are we capitalizing on new technologies to build community, provide access, and create world-class learning experiences. By reconceptualizing the path by which students learn, we are doing our part to build flexibility and access in education, bolstering the American Dream.
The Digital Learning Architect works with various faculty and staff to assess and advise on digital learning needs, challenges, goals, and recommends and supports appropriate digital learning interventions, such as instructional approaches, technologies, or platforms. Delivers informed consultation and guidance on digital learning strategies, innovations, solutions, and best practices. In partnership with faculty and/or staff, the incumbent will work on various projects that support the creation of innovative, high-impact learning experiences and custom solutions for students and programs. The Digital Learning Architect is involved with planning, managing, and evaluating custom digital learning solutions and provides training, coaching, or mentoring to digital learning staff and other academic teams when applying and testing innovative instructional approaches in preparation for broader integration. The incumbent has experience and comprehensive knowledge of digital learning trends, learning innovations, and standards and is eager to explore, research, and test new learning novelties and technologies to inform recommendations for experimentation and application at scale (i.e., extended and virtual reality, gamification, gen AI, etc.). The Digital Learning Architect will also be the primary manager of the Merage School’s virtual classroom studio learning spaces. Will partner, advise, and assist faculty in effectively using web conferencing software (i.e., Zoom) and hardware to support stellar learning experiences delivered synchronously. This includes but is not limited to designing and consulting on the classroom’s continuous pedagogical and technical configuration to meet school needs, ensuring the virtual classroom studio runs effectively for instructional purposes, and providing hands-on support for faculty in successfully delivering live virtual classes. The incumbent will collaborate on the optimal design and refinements of virtual classrooms that promote pedagogically sound synchronous virtual instruction.

The expected pay range for this recruitment is $66,700.00 – $90,000.00 (Annual Salary). The Full Salary Range for the salary grade this position is assigned to is $66,700.00 – $118,500.00 (Annual Salary).

Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
- Thorough knowledge of functional area and understands how work within one course may impact work being done on other courses or in other areas.
- Thorough analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations, demonstrating detail-oriented organization, creative problem-solving skills, project management skills, and resourcefulness.
- Strong analytical, verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills and strong collaboration and negotiation skills.
- Experience breaking down technical jargon in ways all can understand.
- Ability to present complex topics or technical solutions in easily understandable ways.
- Thorough knowledge of organization policies and procedures, including policies that impact online course development.
- Thorough knowledge of instructional design principles and learning strategies, including needs analysis, backward design, learning outcomes and assessment design, and instructional approaches including lecture, discussion, activities, projects, etc.
- Thorough knowledge of the technical tools and platforms required to achieve effective synchronous and asynchronous delivery of engaging online learning content, and of trends in the use and effectiveness of educational technology and learning.
- Thorough knowledge and skills with relevant business software systems, applications, and platforms (i.e., Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Asana, Question Pro, etc.).
- Thorough knowledge of applying adult learning theories and educational methodologies.
- Thorough knowledge of e-learning strategies including but not limited to courses (e.g., processes and technologies, etc.).
- Advanced level skills in application of planning, resourcing and monitoring of effective design life cycles of training and other learning and performance solutions to support the organization.
- Knowledge to conduct appropriate job and task analyses in the context of instructional design of technical, pedagogical, or specialized training.
- Knowledge, skills, and ability to train and develop instructors in various digital learning approaches and applications.
- Demonstrated experience working with various faculty and instructor personalities with a high ability to adapt, anticipate, and support their unique and diverse needs with a learner-centric mindset.
- Experience using various learning technologies (i.e., Yellowdig, Ed Discussion, Feedback Fruits, Panopto, etc.) and rapid e-learning tools (i.e., Storyline, Rise, Camtasia, and/or Snag It, etc.).
- Demonstrated tech-savviness with the ability to quickly learn and adapt to new technologies and applications.
- Thorough knowledge of web conferencing-type tools and platforms for instructional purposes (i.e., Zoom, MS Teams, etc.).
- Curiosity and genuine interest in many different fields and topics.
- Ability to proactively and independently explore, research, and test new learning novelties and technologies to inform recommendations for experimentation and application at scale.
Preferred:
- MBA degree and/or a Master’s degree in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, or related field completed or in progress.
- Knowledge and/or experience with the Universal Design for Learning Framework.
Special Conditions Required:
- Working hours: Working hours will vary based on instructional and operational needs.
- Some work shifts outside of normal business hours (nights and weekends) will be required to support direct instruction.
- This is a hybrid work position: Some remote work is available.
- Work conducted on campus will be dictated by instructional and operational needs and may vary weekly.
- On-campus requirements: The position will require approximately 40% of on-campus presence per quarter/term.
- This on-campus presence will be dedicated to supporting synchronous learning and partnering with business school faculty to help support optimal virtual instruction using studio hardware and software for synchronous virtual class delivery.
