The Benson Center for the Study of Western Civilization (the Center) invites applications to join our interdisciplinary community. Who We Are
The mission of the Benson Center for the Study of Western Civilization is to explore the culture, languages and ideas of the Western tradition, ranging from antiquity to modernity. The Center is especially concerned with the values that emerge from that tradition, and their ongoing role in the institutions of the United States. Integral to this mission is the Centers commitment to fostering research, debate and dialogue on the fundamental issues of our time – moral, political and economic. Our aim is to promote a lively and balanced conversation that respects both conservative and liberal ideals, thus fostering the full diversity of political, economic and philosophical perspectives on the CU Boulder campus.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
The instructor will teach two courses in the fall and two courses in the spring semester in the Philosophy department for academic years 2024-25 and 2025-26. The instructor will also be responsible for working with the Director of the Center on curriculum development for the Centers survey course, Great Ideas of Western Political Thought and Philosophy, in academic year 2024-25, with plans to co-teach that course in academic year 2025-26. The successful candidate will additionally engage the learning mission of the University in other ways. They will participate regularly in the extended community of the Center and the home department through attendance at lectures, engagement with students, and participate in the academic life of the University.

This is a 2-year, fixed-term appointment.
What We Can Offer
The salary range for this position is $58,000 – $62,000. The successful candidate may be eligible for a moving allowance.
