Role Purpose
- To promote and deliver quality teaching and effective learning of English,
- To support the wider aims of British Council and its cultural relations mission.
Accountabilities
- Plan, prepare and deliver high-quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups, taking into account individual learning styles.
- Monitor progress and regularly provide feedback to help manage students performance throughout the course, while actively promoting learner autonomy.
- Contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials and related services, in order to meet students needs by actively working as a member of the teaching team.
- Complete teaching related administrative tasks to specified standards.
- Actively engage in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning, and maintain the British Councils position at the forefront of best ELT practice.
- Support local marketing and promotional strategy, and assist the Teaching Centre team in delivering excellent customer service
Qualifications
Essentials
- Cambridge CELTA/ Trinity Cert TESOL
- Undergraduate/University degree in any discipline
Desirables
- A DELTA, DipTESOL, or other TEFL Q qualification
- Relevant Masters Degree, or PGCE.
- Young learner ELT qualification (e.g. CELTYL, TYLEC)
- Very Young Learner ELT qualification (e.g. NILE Teaching English is Pre-Primary Education)
Work Experience
Essentials
- High proficiency in English i.e. full mastery of English across all 4 skills equivalent to user (CEFR C2) IELTS Band 8/9 in each of 4 sections of the academic module.
- Two years full-time post Certificate (i.e. CELTA/Trinity Cert TESOL) experience gained from teaching a variety of age groups and levels, i.e. young learners and adults (we will, however, consider strong applications from candidates who do not meet the two years post-cert requirement):
- Note a minimum of 1200+ of hours experience should have been gained from teaching two or more of the following age groups:
- Young learners aged 4 to 7
- Young learners aged 8 to 12
- Young learners aged 13 to 17
- Adults aged 17 +
Desirables
- Experience teaching in Thailand
- Experience teaching myClass, Secondary Plus, and/or Primary Plus
Salary & Benefits
- Salary: Starts at 37663 THB per month for Core Teachers, starts at 41512 THB per month for Higher teacher
- Role requirement: This position is to work mainly in our partnerschools in Chiang Mai. The position will require teaching almost exclusively Early Years (kindergarden) and lower primary students in a mainstream school setting. Demonstrable recent experience of teaching Early Years and lower primary students is mandatory or this position
- Teaching hours: 18 hours per week (+3 paid as OT). In addition, the working week for this post is likely to be Wednesday to Sunday, with a Monday / Tuesday weekend. Instructors are required to work on Saturdays and Sundays.
- Medical Benefits: Full-time instructors and eligible dependents will be enrolled in the British Councils medical insurance group scheme upon their commencement in post
- Annual Leaves: Paid leaves are 35 days and 16 Public Holidays
- Pension matching scheme / Provident fund
- Flights and baggage for those hired outside of Thailand
- One-time bonus of 25000 THB (taxable) for CETYLX or TYLEC qualification
