Position Summary:

The Department of Languages, Linguistics, and Comparative Literature seeks two full-time, Spanish Instructors non-tenure track, with benefits, primarily to teach the Beginning Spanish language sequence (SPN 1120 and SPN 1121), but with the possibility of also teaching the Intermediate sequence (SPN 2220 and SPN 2221), heritage learner classes, and occasional Spanish courses at an advanced level, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The hired candidate may also teach LAS 2000 Intro to Latin American Studies if qualified.  The one-year, renewable appointment will take effect August 5, 2024. Course load is 4 courses each semester, Fall and Spring.

Minimum Qualifications:

An MA in Spanish or related field (e. g., Comparative Literature, Comparative Studies, Latin American Studies, Latino/a/x Studies, etc.), with a minimum of 18 graduate credits in Spanish.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Ph. D. in the discipline is preferred. Substantive experience teaching Spanish at the university or community college level is preferred, along with native or near-native fluency in Spanish and English.

Transcripts:
The selected candidate for this position is required to submit an official transcript sent directly from the institution for the Provost’s credential file prior to the first day of employment. Similarly, for degrees from outside the United States, the evaluation by an organization belonging to the National Association of Credential Evaluation (NACES), with an indication of the documents the evaluation was prepared from (official transcripts, diplomas, dissertation abstracts) is required for the Provost’s credential file prior to the first day of employment. Transcripts must be issued to Florida Atlantic University, not to the individual applicant.
Background Screening:
Selected candidates must successfully complete and pass all employment screenings prior to the start of employment. Employment screenings may include a criminal background check (level I and level II), motor vehicle check, credit check, reference checks, alcohol, and drug screening check.
