Position Title: Intern – Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) (Cluster Coordination)

Background Information

As an important function of its mandate, IOM is the Cluster Lead Agency for Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) for natural disaster-induced displacement situations under the 2005 IASC Humanitarian Reform.

Under the overall supervision of the global CCCM Cluster Coordinator and the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator for the German Federal Foreign Office (GFFO) project, the Intern Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) (Cluster Coordination) will be responsible for supporting the CCCM team in the implementation of GFFO project activities and supporting in the development of various initiatives related to IOM CCCM globally, including tools, guidance and research.

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  1. Provide review and editorial support, as well as drafting of the CCCM case studies collection and associated documents, working with relevant colleagues on Women’s Participation project, Capacity Building and Localization, GBV mitigation and Disability inclusion to highlight key actions and lessons learned.
  2. Support the global CCCM support team in with layout and graphic work.
  3. Support drafting of contents, audio/video editing for website, social media and other relatedupdates related to the Safe from the Start Project
  4. Support in collecting and write-ups of country-level updates, best practices and lessonslearned for CCCM operations compiling and carrying out basic review and analysis of actions related to preparedness and localization.
  5. Support coordination and organization of global events, including annual global CCCMMeeting, capacity building and workshops
  6. Contribute to regular reporting on IOM’s global CCCM activities, including for the Safe from the Start project.
  7. Perform such other duties as may be assigned by Global CCCM Cluster coordinator.

Training Components and Learning Elements

  • The Intern will gain knowledge and experience working humanitarian coordination mechanismsat the global level
  • Develop knowledge and obtain learnings on CCCM sector, from policy and strategy tooperational implementation and advocacy
  • Gain a better understanding of IOM’s work, as an inter-governmental organization in the field of Displacement.
  • The Intern can also access online training courses at the disposal of all IOM staff.
  • The Intern will have the possibility to interact with IOM staff within Headquarters and IOM Missions.

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

  • Completed advance university degree from an accredited academic institution preferably in afield of study related to migration or other relevant social sciences; or,
  • Equivalent combination of a Bachelor’s degree and previous humanitarian work experience ina related area.
  • Only applications received within 12 months of their date of graduation will be accepted.

Experience

• Prior experience in working on humanitarian responses, coordination, reporting, forced displacement, or protection an asset.

Skills

  • Strong and demonstrable interest in displacement, coordination, reporting and communications, and/or humanitarian issues;
  • Solid drafting and/or graphic design skills;
  • Skilled in the use of relevant software such as: Microsoft office, adobe suites, social mediaplatforms; and,
  • Solid analytical and drafting skills.

Languages

IOM’s official languages are English, French, and Spanish. All staff members are required to be fluent in one of the three languages.

For this position, fluency in English is required (oral and written). Working knowledge of another official UN language (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, and Spanish) is an advantage.

Proficiency of language(s) required will be specifically evaluated during the selection process, which may include written and/or oral assessments.

Eligibility and Selection

In general, the Internship Programme aims at attracting talented students and graduates who:

  1. have a specific interest in, or whose studies have covered, areas relevant to IOMprogrammes and activities;
  2. are holding a scholarship for internship placements in international organizations and/or forwhom internship is required to complete their studies; or
  3. are sponsored by governmental/non governmental institutions and/or academia to work inspecific areas relevant to both IOM and the sponsor.
  4. are either enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme(minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) or have graduated in the last 12 months. e) are at least 20 years old.

  • Depending on experience and location, IOM provides a small monthly stipend to help offset costs.

The appointment is subject to funding confirmation.

Appointment will be subject to certification that the candidate is medically fit for appointment, accreditation, any residency or visa requirements, and background verification and security clearances. Subject to certain exemptions, vaccination against COVID-19 will in principle be required for individuals hired on or after 15 November 2021. This will be verified as part of the medical clearance process.
