Intake and Outreach Coordinator

Job Overview: The Intake and Outreach Coordinator leads intake and outreach services for all new walk-in clients and most returning clients to the IRC Silver Spring office. The coordinator plans and implements intake-related activities and systems, supervises staff and interns, ensures goals are met and satisfies compliance and reporting responsibilities for the assigned activities. The coordinator works directly with clients in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professional standards and best practices with timely enrollment, referrals to appropriate services and client communication. The coordinator also conducts outreach to eligible populations and communities. This position reports to the Program Manager, Walk In Services.

Major Responsibilities:

Intake Coordination

  • Oversee and conduct eligibility screenings for walk-in clients including humanitarian parolees, asylees, SIVs, secondary migrant refugees, certified and pre-certified victims of trafficking and anyone seeking immigration legal services.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and eligibility criteria on all programs offered by IRC, including but not limited to Maryland state funded programs, federally funded programs such as the Matching Grant program, Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), assistance programs for victims of human trafficking, financial capability services and immigration legal services. Refer eligible clients to appropriate IRC programs using the identified program process.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge about community resources and refer ineligible clients to community resources such as local Departments of Social Services, shelters, food banks, crisis centers and others as applicable.
  • Develop and maintain effective data tracking systems for intake services and produce high quality program reports as needed.

Supervision, Outreach and Other Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of staff and interns supporting intake activities in accordance with IRC’s People Manager Standards.
  • Comply with agency policies, protocols and case management best practices.
  • Represent IRC in meetings with community partners to provide accurate information about IRC services.
  • Conduct outreach to potential clients and community partners about specific IRC programs or services, in collaboration with management team.
  • Lead the coordination of weekly new client orientations across teams.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  • A college degree in social work or a related field of study or equivalent is preferred.
  • The skills and knowledge typically acquired through 1-3 years of full-time relevant work experience at a non-profit agency or other public service environment. Experience in case management or legal services preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and web-based applications (databases, cloud storage, forms).
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail in work product required.
  • Knowledge of and interest to continue learning about public assistance, legal services and community resources for humanitarian immigrant clients.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote an organizational culture that reflects IRC’s core values of service, accountability, integrity and equality. Ability to lead in a way that recognizes that IRC’s work is best accomplished through the true collaboration of individuals from many cultures with a great variety of skills and perspectives.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment and with clients who are Limited English Proficient (LEP). Demonstrated success achieving goals and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Interest and ability to contribute both independently and as a team leader.
  • Experience supervising, supporting and training staff preferred.
  • Experience in program management preferred.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written; bilingual ability in one of the predominant languages (Haitian Creole, Amharic, French) of the local client base is desired.

Working Environment:

  • A combination of standard office environment, remote work and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
  • May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.

US Benefits: The IRC offers a comprehensive and highly competitive set of benefits.
