About the Role

The primary purpose of this position is to provide case management support and services to vulnerable children and young people from pre-birth up to and including 17 years of age, and their families, who are likely to experience greater challenges because the child or young person’s development has been affected by the experience of risk factors, cumulative harm and at risk of concerns escalating and becoming involved with Child Protection if problems are not addressed.

The role focuses on the delivery of service primarily through ongoing implementation, review and progress assessment of the needs of the client. The aim of the program is to deliver evidence informed best practice programs and services, as directed by the Leadership Team, in line with Baptcare strategic objectives for the Family and Children’s Services teams in Victoria. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Commitment to the delivery of evidence – informed best practice services to vulnerable children, youth and families with complex needs, children with a disability; children and families from a culturally or linguistically diverse background; and/or Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Commitment to the safety, well-being and best interests of children and young people, and duty of care in the prevention, identification, and response to child abuse.
  • Compliance with budgets, procedures, and protocols to meet best practice and compliance with legislation, Baptcare quality systems, and contractual requirements.
  • Maintain and encourage positive working relationships with key stakeholders including funding body and membership of key networks.
  • Participate, assist, and support the immediate and broader team to implement evidence-informed practice and ensure exceptional customer service and outcomes-based support to clients.

Key Selection Criteria

Essential skills:

  • Ability to work autonomously.
  • Confident communication skills, in written and verbal English, highly impactful influencing, negotiation, persuasion and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to adjust to meet the changing situations and needs of the staff, carer and client group while maintain focus on delivery and follow-through.
  • Excellent skills in organisation and time management.  
  • Sound stakeholder management and the ability to build and maintain strong, credible relationships with relevant stakeholders.
  • Strong computer skills and use of full suite of Microsoft office.

Knowledge:

  • Demonstrated evidence informed family assessment skills in working with vulnerable children and families with complex issues.
  • Demonstrated evidence informed knowledge and application of therapeutic models and theories to develop skill- based interventions that enable positive change.
  • Demonstrated evidence informed knowledge and understanding of child development, trauma, family, and child/risk assessment skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Knowledge of and experience working within a funding environment.
  • A demonstrated understanding of the complexity of the child protection, flexible funding interventions, out of home care and the family support systems and the issues involved in providing services to statutory clients.
  • Demonstrated level of self-awareness and resilience and the ability to manage multiple demands and prioritise accordingly.

You will ideally bring the following:

  • Tertiary Qualifications in Social Work, Psychology or other relevant Human Services qualification and/or experience.
  • Previous experience in Child and Family Services, not for profit, or community services sector at a practitioner level desirable but not essential.
  • Satisfactory National Crime Check, renewed every three (3) years
  • COVID-19 Vaccinations per Baptcare’s Vaccination Policy
  • Driver’s Licence and own reliable vehicle
  • Full and ongoing Right to Work in Australia
  • Working With Children’s Check
