About the Role

The Integrated Water Officer is a key member of the Climate Change, Energy and Water (CCEW) team. This Officer is responsible to lead and deliver implementation and review of the Shire’s Integrated Water Management Plan. This includes development and delivery of key programs and projects and representing the Shire on State led Catchment Scale Integrated Water Management (CSIWM) working groups.

Water conservation, water quality improvements, alternative water use are all activity areas of the role. The position advises and coordinates with other teams across the Shire regarding water management improvements and represents the Shire and its community in the water sector.

Reporting to the Team Leader Water and Coasts the core responsibilities include:

  • Review and deliver the Shire’s strategic Integrated Water Management Plan
  • Develop and deliver projects relating to water conservation, water quality improvements and alternative water use Integrated Water Management Officer
  • Develop and maintain external stakeholder relationships to achieve the best possible outcomes for water management. e.g. Melbourne Water, SEW, DEECA, MAV, Association of Bayside Municipalities (ABM) and beyond
  • Represent Council on external policy framework discussions and initiatives and coordinate Council responses to policy developments
  • Represent the Shire at the Catchment Scale Integrated Water Management (CSIWM) working groups and work to promote and deliver key actions from the 10-year action plan
  • Support planning for Climate Change adaptation and mitigation e.g. flood prevention/management, drought/alternate water use and water efficiency and water quality concerns.
  • Work to improve organisational application of Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD), knowledge of construction, and the maintenance/renewals of these assets

About You

  • Degree or diploma in engineering, environmental science/agriculture or public policy
  • At least three years project management, project planning and/or strategic planning experience
  • Experience in local government or other complex organisations is desirable
  • A technical knowledge of integrated water management and catchment management
  • Ability to communicate and negotiate with a wide cross-section of the community including all levels of internal and external management, staff, developers, contractors, consultants, and the community
