JOB DESCRIPTION
Integration & Trade Specialist
Washington, D.C.
BACKGROUND:
The IDB Group is a community of diverse, versatile, and passionate people who come together on a journey to improve lives in Latin America and the Caribbean. Our people find purpose and do what they love in an inclusive, collaborative, agile, and rewarding environment.
ABOUT THIS POSITION:
The Integration and Trade Sector (INT) of the Vice-Presidency for Sectors and Knowledge (VPS) supports Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) integration into the global economy and regional integration and cooperation through lending operations, technical assistance and applied economic and sector work. Aligned to these efforts, INT also fosters international trade and investment through a series of conferences and events with relevant clients and partners from the public and private sectors of LAC; as well as through key initiatives and programs such as: (i) Connectamericas (CA): (ii) the Americas Business Dialogue (ABD), and the recently launched BID for the Americas program (BFA).
We are looking for a motivated, business-driven, and innovative professional to provide technical guidance to the BFA’s team, which is responsible for its business development and trade and investment fora agenda. BFA is a new IDB program crafted to strengthen and grow economic ties between the United States and Latin America and the Caribbean. The program will focus on three pillars: 1) public procurement, aimed at increasing the participation of U.S. firms in government contracts financed by IDB in the region; 2) trade and investment, to facilitate business connections and partnerships between the U.S. and regional firms; and 3) financing, intended to mobilize resources through the IDB’s public and private windows to support projects involving U.S. companies.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
Working under moderate supervision, you will:
- Provide technical guidance to BFA’s team in the implementation of its action plan to promote business opportunities between the United States (US) and Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries.
- Collaborate with BFA’s team to carry out its engagement strategy with public and private sectors of selected IDB’s shareholder countries.
- Coordinate the design, conceptualization, and implementation of BFA’s trade and investment fora agenda (seminars and presentations in state-level roadshows in key US cities and in country events).
- Provide advice and innovative technical inputs to BFA’s team to ensure an accurate alignment between BFA’s trade and investment fora agenda and other forums and events organized by INT, particularly through CA and ABD.
- Coordinate the organization of BFA’s trade and investment fora, other demand-driven events and business matchmaking meetings with the US and LAC companies.
- Identify and champion business opportunities generated by BFA’s trade and investment fora activity to increase the participation of US firms and institutions in IDB Group projects.
- Coordinate the linkage between business opportunities generated through BFA with CA’s and ABD’s potential areas of interest related to those opportunities.
- In the context of BFA, support CA’s team in the organization of face-to-face and virtual business matchmaking events with US companies, in partnership with trade promotion organizations and other private organizations in LAC and in the US.
- Develop dialogue with internal and external shareholders to increase the impact of BFA’s activities in the region.
- Promote collaboration with other divisions and departments of the IDB Group, prioritizing activities that are conducive to BFA’s objectives and work program.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED:
- Education: Master’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in economics, finance, business administration, public policy, law, or related fields.
- Experience: At least 5 years of professional experience in the fields of international trade, investment attraction, and/or investment promotion, and validated expertise in coordinating complex and relevant public and private conferences and events related to investment attraction and/or promotion.
