About the opportunity

This role is responsible for providing casework and case management to families. IFP caseworkers work with families to improve capacity and family functioning. The aim of the program is keeping children at home in a stable and nurturing family environment and to prevent families from entering the statutory child protection system.

IFP caseworkers support families who are often experiencing multiple issues that could include child protection, financial, housing, domestic violence, drug and alcohol, mental health and relationship issues.  

Your Qualifications & Experience

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in social science and/or demonstrated relevant work experience with families, or equivalent and relevant to the field of work.
  • Typically, this role will require 3 or more year’ experience in your field of expertise.
  • You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be organised, systematic, thorough, accurate and disciplined.
  • You will be continuing to develop in your area of expertise and be expected to provide innovative ideas to solve problems in your discipline.
  • It is expected that you will posses’ good skills at navigating a complex organisation, forging relationships, and managing through influence rather than direct authority as required.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage families in crisis and work in partnership with them to achieve their goals, using a variety of intervention strategies from the Homebuilders Model.
  • Demonstrated understanding of child protection issues and an ability to conduct risk and family assessments using the strengths-based approach.
  • Demonstrated commitment to children remaining with their own family provided they are safe.
  • Current driver’s license and willingness to transport families.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • Ability to work cooperatively in a team and support other team members, managing time and administration responsibilities.

Even Better:

  • Experience in supporting Aboriginal families in providing culturally sensitive interventions.
  • Experience in the NSW Child protection system.
