Damien Center, Damien Cares and Damien Pharmacy provide client-centered social services focused on care coordination, clinical and pharmacy services, mental health, housing, and nutrition to the Indianapolis community.

As a condition of employment, Damien Center requires all new hires to be vaccinated against Covid 19 in compliance with the CDC vaccination guidelines including all boosters. All current Damien Center team members are fully vaccinated against Covid 19 and up to date with all boosters effective November 30, 2022.

Also, as a condition of employment, Damien Center requires all team members to be vaccinated against influenza and receive a tuberculosis skin test (or chest x-ray) annually, barring an approved exemption. Damien Center offers onsite vaccinations for all these vaccines on a regular basis including an optional Hepatitis B vaccination.

Position Summary:

The full-time Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) Therapist will be responsible for the provision of direct service to clients engaged in the IOP Program at Damien Center and will be part of the team providing services through the CARE Program (Comprehensive Access to Recovery and Empowerment). This program is part of the SAMHSA grant “Minority Aids Initiative: High Risk Populations”, seeking to effectively end the HIV epidemic through reducing the spread of HIV by treating substance use disorders among high-risk populations, focusing on effected racial and ethnic minorities. This position will provide direct clinical services to adults diagnosed with substance use disorders facilitating IOP groups, individual therapy, family therapy as applicable, and completing initial assessments as needed. The therapist must be licensed or license eligible in the state of Indiana and be able to work independently. The ideal candidate will have experience and knowledge working with substance abuse/addiction, other co-occurring disorders, and the LGBTQ+ community. The therapist will follow best practices of the profession including all ethical requirements. This person will adhere to Damien Center’s policies and procedures pertaining to clients’ rights and confidentiality, including all HIPAA protections. Services will be provided in person though occasionally telehealth may be utilized to meet specific client needs.

Working Hours:

  • Monday-Thursday- 8:30am- 5:30 pm and Friday 8:30 am- 3:00 pm with an hour break included.
  • Some flex time available depending on circumstances.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This job description describes the general nature and level of work performed by employees assigned to this position. It should not be construed as an exhaustive list of all required duties, responsibilities, and skills.

  • Provide group therapy for cohorts of up to 12 individuals in intensive outpatient programming focused on the treatment of substance use disorders/addiction and co-occurring mental health issues.
  • Perform biopsychosocial assessments, recommend clients to appropriate treatment utilizing ASAM criteria, and complete discharge planning for clients.
  • Applies culturally competent therapeutic interventions in the delivery of clinical services.
  • Participate in multi-disciplinary treatment planning conferences. Presents appropriate patient information to the treatment team. Recommend effective treatment interventions.
  • Makes recommendations for alternative treatment programs and completes referrals as indicated.
  • Completes timely progress notes and treatment updates in the medical record. Maintains all clinical documentation in accordance with regulatory and accrediting standards.
  • Functions as the primary provider of IOP programming, providing direct services in both group and individual therapy settings. Maintain a limited and flexible caseload of clients seen in individual therapy.
  • Engage family members of IOP participants in treatment services as applicable to the individual. Provide family members with psychoeducation on the disease of addiction and facilitate family therapy sessions.
  • Develops a comprehensive, individualized service/treatment plan for assigned clients by assessing medical, psychological, and service needs, as well as soliciting client feedback, input, and agreement, revising as necessary.
  • Coordinates services required to implement treatment plan, monitor effectiveness of treatment, and revise/update treatment plan as necessary.
  • Provides substance abuse counseling as well as harm reduction and HIV prevention education.
  • Work collaboratively with peer recovery staff to improve client engagement and outcomes.
  • Provide supervision to peer recovery staff secondary to and in collaboration with program manager.
  • Assists with the collection of client urinary drug screens as indicated, tracking and monitoring results.
  • Maintain client records in accordance with applicable standards and regulations, grant requirements, etc.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical conduct regarding confidentiality, dual-relationships, and professional stature.
  • Work collaboratively with various departments and staff within The Damien Center as well as applicable outside agencies.
  • Ability to maintain competent use of electronic medical records, currently eCW.
  • Maintain program standards of care set forth by the Department of Mental Health and Addictions (DMHA Indiana) and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA).
  • Participate in continuing education requirements (minimum 20 CEs per year)..
  • Secure client private health information per HIPAA standards, policy, and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Master’s degree in mental health field required.
  • Active Clinical license preferred (LCSW, LMFT, LMHC, LCAC) or minimum license eligible.
  • Minimum of one year experience working with people with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health disorders.
  • Experience working in an Intensive Outpatient Program preferred.
  • Knowledge of LGBTQ+ culture and societal/family challenges is required.
  • Those with lived experience comparable to that of this program’s target population may be given consideration over some professional experience.

Supervisory Relationships:

  • This position will report directly to the Intensive Outpatient Program Manager and may be assigned tasks as needed by the Director of Mental Health.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Candidate should possess superior organizational and administrative skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities. Excellent computer skills in a Microsoft Windows environment. Ability to work independently and achieve high standards of productivity, achieving deadlines and with superior results. Strong calendaring, organizational, and document management skills required. Proactive approach to solving problems and communicating to leadership. Knowledge of office management systems, procedures, and office equipment required. Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work.

Compensation:

  • Salary Range $58,000-$68,000
  • Based on level of experience. All relevant experience will be considered for compensation rates.
  • 2-5 years experience = $58k
  • 5-10 years experience = $62k
  • 10 + years experience = $68k
  • $2,500 salary increase for clinical licensure.
