Welsh Dee Trust – Internship

Location: Office is based in Llangollen. Flexible working options are
available. Must have own transport and be willing to travel to locations in North Wales and
West Cheshire.
Salary and Expenses: £11.44 per hour. Expenses incurred to carry out your
duties will be reimbursed.
Contract: 3 days per week, including some weekends and evenings. Fixed term
for 5 months starting in July 2024.
Holidays: 25 days pro rata + bank holidays
Reports To: Programme manager

About Welsh Dee Trust 

A member of the wider Rivers Trust movement, Welsh Dee Trust is a small independent charity
working to restore the brooks, streams and rivers of the Dee catchment for both wildlife and
people. In 2020 the Welsh Dee Trust embarked on an exciting period of growth, identifying five
clear programmes of work to pursue. This role is for our It Shouldn’t Be In The Dee programme
which aims to engage and empower communities to care for their local water environment.

Position Overview

The intern will support Welsh Dee Trust staff in the delivery of the It Shouldn’t Be In The Dee
programme. This will involve promoting and hosting volunteer events (e.g., litter picks and
training), education events (e.g., stands at public events, walks and public talks), citizen
science activities (e.g., monitoring pollution) and supporting a project to scope and deliver
Sustainable Drainage solutions in the Welsh catchment. There will also be the opportunity to
support the delivery of our Restoring River Habitat and Water Wise Farming programmes, giving a
broad range of experience across the whole organisation. This role will be working on
throughout the river Dee catchment in North Wales and West Cheshire.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Supporting staff to plan and deliver a Sustainable Drainage project across the Welsh Dee
  catchment
• Promoting upcoming volunteer and education events to communities, including online
• Supporting staff to plan and deliver volunteer and education events, both in-person and
  online
• Collecting and managing data relating to monitoring pollution, water quality and river
  habitat
• Creating and maintaining relationships with individuals and community groups
• Researching and preparing content for social media

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

• Confident and personable manner
• Full driving licence and your own vehicle
• Ability to use Windows/Microsoft Office

Desirable

• Knowledge of pollution relating to the water environment
• Experience working with volunteers and/or community groups
• Experience using social media
• Experience using GIS software
• Welsh-speaking
