This internship is for three months with an opportunity for extension to a maximum of six months, pending the needs of the department. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work up to five days per week (35 hours) under supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. The selected candidates are expected to start in September 2024.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance is looking for a communications or graphic design intern. Are you passionate about communications or design and ready to support and shape the United Nation’s internal and external communication efforts? The Intern will support the development and implementation of a communications plan and approach for the Department of Management Strategy, Policy and Compliance. Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
- Lays out newsletters, reports, and other communications products.
- Drafts articles, blogs, announcements and other supplementary materials.
- Supports event coordination and outreach activities.
- Designs visual content of the Department’s communication with internal and external stakeholders.
- Designs posters, banners, fliers, infographics and other communications materials following the Department’s visual identity.
- Researches content for printed and online material.
- Supports the creation of multimedia content and products.
- Helps with the maintenance and value additions to our internal and external websites.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
- be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
- be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
- Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
- Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage.
- Good knowledge in graphic design and communication related software is desirable.
- Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts is desirable.
Languages
- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
