INTERNSHIP OFFICE BACKGROUND:

The Regional Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean established the Regional Hub for Latin America and the Caribbean in Panama to bring corporate and regional policy, and advisory support, closer to where they are needed on the ground, and to make those services more responsive to country programme needs.

The Regional Hub serves 25 Country Offices (COs) in Latin America and the Caribbean. It offers COs and other clients readily accessible services, class advice and technical support, and a trustworthy source of knowledge, experiences, and resources provided by a group of experts and professionals. It works through its COs with governments and people to develop customized solutions to development challenges and thus help to strengthen local capacities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direct guidance of the Communications Associate of Business Solutions & Operations, the intern will undertake the following tasks:

Objective of the Assignment:

  • Assist in designing and updating communications materials for Human Resources and the Business Solutions & Operations SharePoint, and other internal communication channels.
  • Assist in design of visuals, flyers, and Video editing
  • Supporting internal communications engagement campaigns and strategies;
  • Supporting the organization of on-line and on-site internal events such as workshops, capacity building sessions, and others.
  • Assist in Translation, proof reading, formatting, and editing of documents;
  • Assist in the preparation of presentations, briefing notes, meeting minutes and reports;

Other:

  • Other related tasks and ad hoc support.

Education:

Candidates must meet one of the following educational requirements:

a) Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher); in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Audio Visual Productions or related areas.

b) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Audio Visual Productions or related areas.

c) Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Audio Visual Productions or related areas, and if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation;

d) Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program.

Field of study: Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Audio Visual Productions or related areas.

IT skills:

  • Knowledge and a proficient user of Microsoft Office productivity tools;
  • -Strong IT skills, including MS Office;
  • – Strong design and video editing skills (Adobe Creative Cloud tools, Canva, ClipChamp, and similar)
  • – Excellent writing and editing skills;
  • – Interest in internal communications and content creation
  • – Learning-oriented

Language skills:

  • Fluency in written and spoken English and Spanish required;
  • Knowledge of other UN languages is an advantage.

Experience:

No previous professional experience is required, but the presentation of evidence of experience in the areas that contemplate the internship, either in jobs professionals and / or academic, creative portfolio, experienced awards and / or participation in communication communities will be an asset.

As of January 1 2020, Interns may be given a stipend according to the UNDP Internship Policies, if is not financially supported by any institution or programme, such as a university, government, foundation or scholarship programme

V. INTERNSHIP CONDITIONS

  • UNDP accepts no responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness or death incurred during the internship;
  • Interns are responsible for obtaining necessary visas and arranging travel to and from the duty station where the internship will be performed;
  • Interns must provide proof of enrolment in health insurance plan for the location and the duration of the internship.
  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity;
  • Interns are expected to work full-time, but flexibility is allowed for education programmes;
  • UNDP only accepts interns for a minimum of 6 weeks and a maximum of 6 months.
