Purpose of the position: The Intern, Country Engagement, provides support with country engagement, communications and learning processes especially with respect to project management, content coordination, record-keeping, event planning and preparation of country briefing agendas and presentation materials.

Duration: ASAP for up to 24 weeks.
Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance is a public-private partnership committed to saving children’s lives and protecting people’s health by increasing equitable use of vaccines in lower-income countries. The Vaccine Alliance brings together implementing country and donor governments, the World Health Organisation, UNICEF, the World Bank, the vaccine industry, technical agencies, civil society, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and other private sector partners. Gavi uses innovative finance mechanisms, including co-financing by recipient countries, to secure sustainable funding and adequate supply of quality vaccines. Since 2000, Gavi has contributed to the immunisation of more than 981 million children and the prevention of more than 16 million future deaths.
THE ROLE
The Intern, Country Engagement and MICs, works together with the Country Engagement and MICs teams, in support of country-facing and programme coordination staff, and is responsible for information management and planning for key engagement moments, supporting the uptake and delivery of vaccines. This includes:
- Providing regular and accurate inputs to support project planning of country engagement to enable the team to function effectively and on time;
- Supporting implementation and facilitating change management/sensitisation of standard operating procedures and protocol;
- Assisting in the content creation process with technical teams and Alliance partners and supporting in the delivery of clear and consistent country engagement products through the appropriate format (e.g. country briefings, high-level engagements);
- Supporting Country Engagement and MICs team, and country-facing teams in timely project coordination of ministerial and Alliance partner strategic engagement at key forums (e.g., World Health Assembly (WHA), Gavi replenishment, UN General Assembly, learning forums, and other key events as relevant;
- Assisting MICs team members in developing analytical work to advance its learning agenda topics such as gender and civil society engagement, among other relevant to the MICs learning agenda objectives;
Key functions and deliverables:
- Record, map and maintain a dynamic calendar of all country-facing engagement utilising the country engagement grid;
- Coordination and maintaining effective working relationships with relevant country stakeholders. within CPD and across Gavi Secretariat technical teams throughout the country engagement process as outlined in team standard operating procedures;Support coordination of content creation process between Country Engagement and technical teams under the guidance of the line manager, and support creating, drafting, editing and delivering streamlined country engagement products;
- Support drafting and maintaining internal information documents for country-facing staff (e.g. FAQs, country briefing slides, vaccine product information, funding guidelines);
- Support operational planning and implementation of the key high-level engagements, such as the World Health Assembly side events, Investment Opportunity Launch event, and any other relevant events;
- Carry out, with MICs team member guidance, analytical reviews of gender-responsive/transformative approaches and CSO engagement in MICs applications and existing programmes;
- Support the development of other relevant input under MICs learning agenda;
MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Map, centralise, and organise upcoming country communications and engagement moments across the Gavi Secretariat;
- Support in evolution of country-facing briefings and assist in organising internal helpdesk sessions around key engagement moments (e.g. programme launches, funding deadlines, high-level ministerial engagements);
- Support the creation and implementation of country communication project workplans to ensure alignment with Gavi standards and approval processes;
- Identify, map, analyse and prepare for dissemination gender-responsive/transformative approaches and CSO engagement in MICs applications and existing programme;
- Contribute to materials for status updates and reporting to internal Gavi and external stakeholder audience;
- Support logistics and coordination of key country-facing events;
- Support drafting and dissemination of content, briefs and reports;

QUALIFICATIONS
ACADEMICS
Minimum Bachelor’s degree; must be enrolled in Master’s or Doctoral programme in global/public health, international relations/affairs, public affairs/policy, communications, economics, management or related fields.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 1 years’ previous office experience;
- Experience in large, cross-functional teams working across diverse stakeholders within complex contexts;
- Work experience in diverse settings (lower, lower-middle, middle-income economies) an asset;
