Duties and Responsibilities

Org. Setting and Reporting The United Nations Global Service Centre (UNGSC) provides critical Supply Chain, Geospatial, Information and Telecommunications Technologies Services and Training to all peacekeeping and special political missions around the world as well as to other UN Offices, Agencies Funds and Programs. This Internship is located in the Supply Network Management Unit of the Supply Chain Service at the United Nations Global Service Centre, Brindisi, Italy. The Intern will report to the relevant Supervisor and will work under the direct supervision of Chief, Supply Network Management Unit. The internship is for a minimum period of three months with an opportunity for extension up to six months, depending on the needs of the Unit and availability of the candidate, with substantial preference being given to candidates who are able to commit to the maximum six-month period. Two (2) post are available. The internship is unpaid and full-time. Responsibilities Our interns work as full members of our team, pursue projects that are designed to make a significant difference in UNGSC, and have opportunities to learn about the United Nations overall. Within delegated authority, the Intern may be responsible for the following duties: • Gather and analyse relevant demand data, including consumption trends, customers activities, and supply indicators. • Prepare reports summarizing key findings and potential impacts on the supply chain. • Collaborate with the team, to gather and consolidate supply chain requirements. • Compile data on demand forecasts, inventory levels, and production schedules to identify overall supply chain needs. • Develop comprehensive supply chain response plans that align with organizational goals and objectives. • Use modelling tools to optimize inventory levels, replenishment schedules, and distribution networks. • Conduct analysis of the effectiveness of existing supply chain response strategies. • Optimize the supply chain response through continuous improvement initiatives and adjustments to enhance overall performance. • Collect and evaluate data from diverse databases and sources. • Utilize statistical and/or mathematical programming for report and visual representation development. • Create and maintain databases, offering consultation and technical support to determine appropriate statistical methodologies. • Use various statistical and mathematical software packages for summarizing and interpreting results. • Design and execute study activities and process enhancements. • Aid team members in data management, transformation, and cleaning from primary or secondary sources, while maintaining databases/data systems. • Produce simple data visualizations for internal or external use. • Transform data results into written reports or presentations for communication with management. • Identify, analyse, and interpret trends or patterns using basic machine learning techniques and statistical methods to pinpoint relevant features and variables in structured information and data sources. • Contribute to identifying opportunities for innovative approaches and evidence-based reasoning to address organizational issues, ensuring the use of clean data for complex analyses. • Assist in developing and delivering data science solutions to enhance organizational program planning, decision-making, and implementation. • Assist in data and document management. • Prepare and/or review internal files, database, and logs. • Assist to prepare internal templates for the creation/revision of service delivery Master Data. • Provide other assistance as needed.

Qualifications/special skills

Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Be computer literate in standard software applications such as Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPivot, PowerPoint, and analytics tools (e.g., Microsoft SQL, Microsoft Power BI, SAP Business Objects, Tableau, Qlik). Have a keen interest in supply chain operations and logistics, analytics, information management, visualization, and performance optimization. Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Have knowledge of supply chain operations and logistics, data management techniques, quantitative analysis and methods is an advantage. Have knowledge of data science, data analytics, applied mathematics, information management is an advantage.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
