Duties and Responsibilities
The Resident Coordinator System encompasses all organizations of the United Nations that have operational activities in the country. As the designated Representative of the UN Secretary-General and leader of the UN Country Team (UNCT), the UN Resident Coordinator (UNRC), in consultation with the UNCT, assumes overall responsibility and coordination of the developmental activities of the UN carried out at country level. The UNCT is composed of representatives of the UN funds and programmes, specialized agencies and non-resident UN agencies. The UNCT in Mongolia has various working structures to ensure a coordinated interagency action in the country and implement joint activities under the leadership of the RC. The UN RCO Intern for digital communications under the overall supervision of the RC, direct supervision of the UN RCO Communications and Advocacy Officer, will provide assistance to the execution of the services in the UN RCO in digital and social media communications. The internship position is for Mongolian nationals and is located in the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, and is offered for a period of 6(six) months. The internship is unpaid with in-person working arrangements. The Intern is expected to work five days per week (with minimum 20 hours to maximum 30 hours) or on an agreeable time arrangement. Required Competencies Digital communication: • Be proficient in graphic design programs including Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, and Premier Pro), and knowledge of video and audio editing software. • Writing and proofing skills are also required, and competency to articulate complicated themes in simple and everyday language is an asset; • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) and administrative skills • Communicating Information and Ideas: facilitating and encouraging open communication in the team, communicating effectively Teamwork: -Works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve organizational goals. -Places team agenda before personal agenda. -Shares credit for team accomplishments and accepts joint responsibility for team shortcomings. Creativity: -Offers new and different options to solve problems -Thinks “outside the box” -Takes an interest in new ideas and new ways of doing things.
Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office in Mongolia, the following conditions must be met: Applicants must: -(a) be a Mongolian national, enrolled in the final academic year of a digital communications, information science, computer science, information systems, media studies, international relations and development studies, or related field graduate programme or have recently graduated with a university degree (in the fields mentioned above) and -(b) must possess digital communications skills and proficient user in graphic design software and social media digital platforms; and -(c) Familiarity with the concept of sustainable development will be an asset and -(d) Previous experience working/volunteering/interning with the organization of events, missions, seminars, and conferences will be an asset and -(e) have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Languages
English is the working language of the United Nations in Mongolia. For the internship advertised, intermediate knowledge in English is required. Fluency in written Mongolian is required for development of communications materials in Mongolian.
