Duties and Responsibilities
The Regional Section for Latin America and the Caribbean (RSLAC), Division for Operations (DO), at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna, Austria, was established to provide end-to-end operational support, and to monitor UNODC operations and implementation of technical assistance delivery in the field. It also serves as the headquarters focal point for Permanent Missions of Member States in the region, UNODC Representatives in the field and UNODC senior management at headquarters in Vienna. The internship position is located in the Regional Section for Latin America & the Caribbean (RSLAC), Division for Operations, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Vienna (Austria). The intern shall undertake the following duties which may include, but are not limited to: • Support the backstopping functions for the development, coordination and communication of operations and activities of the Regional Section for Latin America & the Caribbean Team, in line with UN and UNODC mandates and new operational priorities. • Assist the Programme Officers in monitoring programme delivery, support of further development of strategic programme frameworks, country profiles and work plans. • Draft correspondence. • Perform research on specific topics and produce working papers, reports, summaries, analyses, briefings, presentations, and studies. • Attend and take notes at meetings, produce minutes and briefings on outcomes. • Perform other tasks as necessary. The initial duration is two months, with the first offer. An opportunity for extension for another four months, depending on the needs of the office and the availability of the interns. The envisaged start date is end May/beginning June 2024. UNODC internships are UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (40 hours), under the daily supervision of the Programme Officers of RSLAC and under the overall guidance of the Chief of RSLAC. Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Be computer literate in standard software applications; Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in English, i.e., oral and written proficiency, and knowledge of Spanish is required.
