WFP Ghana Country office under the Gulf of Guinea Emergency Response, is currently working to support refugees, asylum seekers and vulnerable host community members in the Upper East and Upper West of the Country. Over the past year insecurity in Burkina Faso driven by non-state armed groups has rapidly moved southwards creating a spill over across the border and therefore putting a significant strain on host communities’ resources and food systems.
A need has therefore arisen for an emergency preparedness and response intern role to provide support to the team. This role will be based in Accra.
JOB PURPOSE:
To provide administrative and operational support to emergency coordinator and other team members for efficient and effective management of the response. The incumbent will be supervised and managed by the emergency coordinator.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the direct supervision of the Emergency Coordinator, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:
- Produce and contribute to the preparation of briefs, presentations, and reports for the emergency preparedness and response(EPR) Unit. This includes supporting the monthly Gulf of Guinea situation report and other documents as may be required.
- Undertake desk research on the impact of cash tranferred to asylum seekers through both qualitatative, quantitative and mixed methods techniqueds working cloely with the monitoring and evaluation team. .
- Work with the EPR team to support the capacity strengthening of the National Disaster Management Organization and other local entities responsible for emergency response.
- Engage in EPR activities that provide opportunity for cross functional learning and work on a specific project by way of sharing experiences from the different functional areas.
- Conduct desk research, reviews and analyses relating to crises and EPR-related issues in the Gulf of Guinea Countries.
- Support in the synthesis and production of Gulf of Guinea contextual risks analysis working closely with monitoring and evaluation team.
- Support protection and accountability to affected populations through regular field missions and community engagemen activities.
- Support the EPR unit in the design and implementation of knowledge management strategy.
Eligibility
- Currently enrolled with at least two years undergraduate studies completed, or recently graduated (within the last year) in Social Sciences, Economics, Disaster Management, Agriculture, Development Studies, International Relations, or related fields.
- Currently enrolled or recent graduate of an advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) highly regarded
- A very strong knowledge of English is compulsory. Knowledge of French, Arabic and/or regional languages seen positively.
- Excellent computer literacy (MS Office, Excel, Powerpoint) is compulsory. Data visualisation experience (such as Tableaux) seen positively.

Language: Fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station and in the duty station’s language, if different.
