Field of activity

  • The Specialist and Methodology Department (FMB) is the technical and methodological service provider for GIZ projects worldwide. He stands for quality and innovation at GIZ and makes an important contribution to bundling the company’s knowledge, preparing it and putting it into practice.
  • The work during the 6-month internship takes place in the FMB competence centers “Rural Development and Food Security” and the “Data Service Center”.
  • The competence centers develop and support GIZ projects at home and abroad and offer specialist advice on, among other things, rural development, land governance, agricultural trade and food security. The Data Service Center offers data services and advice for GIZ projects. This includes support in the collection, management and analysis of geodata, including for data-supported planning and monitoring of projects.

Your tasks

  • Updating the intranet pages and knowledge repositories on “Remote Sensing & Geographical Information” and “Land Governance” including updating the knowledge library
  • Supporting community-based knowledge management (e.g. moderation of MS Teams communities)
  • Supporting data-supported Planning new GIZ projects through data research and document evaluation, with a focus on geoinformation
  • Support in organizing specialist events in the fields of geoinformation and land governance (e.g. annual meetings, community calls, topic forums)
  • Practical support in the organization and implementation of training events (e.g. on QGIS, geoinformation in development cooperation)
  • Support in the creation and publication of the newsletter on remote sensing and geoinformation
  • Support in the establishment of a geocatalogue

your profile

  • You have completed a basic degree/bachelor’s degree in geography, geoinformation, agricultural sciences, international cooperation or a related field of study.
  • You have knowledge of current technological developments in the areas of remote sensing and geoinformation as well as current specialist discussions on rural development topics, especially land governance.
  • Experience in event management, public relations and dealing with social networks and digital innovations in development cooperation would also be desirable.
  • You are experienced in using geographic information systems, cartographic displays and common data processing programs.
  • Ideally, you have already been able to gain initial practical experience in a country in the global south.
  • You are also able to work independently and in a solution-oriented manner, manage various processes in parallel and are characterized by a high level of intercultural competence, reliability and thoroughness.
  • You have very good written expression and experience working in a team.
  • You have very good language skills in German and English; language skills in French or Spanish would also be an advantage.
