Duties and Responsibilities
This internship is UNPAID and fulltime. Interns are expected to work five days per week (40 hours) and will be under the supervision of a designated staff member in their assigned office. The Innovation, Enterprise and Investment Section deals with policy issues relating to the development of small and medium-sized enterprises; promotion and facilitation of foreign direct investment (FDI); national and international investment regulations, policies and agreements; and promotion of sustainable business practices in Asia and the Pacific region. Under the overall supervision of the Chief of the Innovation, Enterprise and Investment Section of the Trade, Investment and Innovation Division, and the direct supervision of one of the Economic Affairs Officers of the Section, the intern will assist in the preparation of analytical studies in the overall areas of: Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) trends and policies, FDI issues related to gender equality, the digital economy, and climate change, national and international investment regulations, policies and agreements, impact investment and/or other relevant areas of substantive research. The intern will also participate in day-to-day operational tasks of the section. Related activities may include: 1. Assist in analytical and background research relating but not limited to: FDI trends, national and international investment regulations, policies and agreements, sustainable business practices, enterprise development, policy and regulatory frameworks, impact investment, access to finance for SMEs, inclusive business development and sustainability, etc. 2. Research, develop and edit content for division social media channels on FDI and business innovation. 3. Conduct quantitative data analysis, basic economic modeling and database updates of FDI statistics. 4. Assist in project planning, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of programme initiatives 5. Assist in the organization of workshops and forums 6. Collaborate in the development of web content and webpage design 7. Assist in the drafting of reports of meetings. 8. Participate in day-to-day operational tasks of the section. This may include, for example servicing requests for information; support for developing presentations; updating of websites and databases; etc. 9. Present on the work undertaken during internship, or on related research work, at an internal brown bag seminar. Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent). No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship. Note: We will not consider candidates who have completed a full 6 months internship in other entities and departments under the UN Secretariat, unless the candidate has completed a different advanced degree.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

MODE OF INTERNSHIPS: While it is optional to do internship remotely, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
