Duties and Responsibilities
Org. Setting and Reporting After the 2006 July War, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) initiated its Country Programme in Lebanon, responding to emerging issues through housing reconstruction, shelter provision and upgrading basic services, while laying the foundation for long-term sustainable solutions by means of urban profiling (including neighbourhood profiling) and other research, as well as urban policy analyses. UN-Habitat Lebanon has been working effectively with partners and urban planning actors at the community, national and international levels for the past 15 years to develop and implement programmes and interventions that contribute to the achievement of the targets of Goal 11 of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) – making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable. The intern will be working with the communications team and directly reporting to the visual content creator, under the oversight of the Head of the Country Programme. Responsibilities – Support in developing creative and effective communication materials that enhance the visibility and reach of UN-Habitat’s projects and as a programme. – Support in developing signboards, reports, publications, promotional items, posters, leaflets, maps, presentations, newsletters, and infographics. – Assist in developing visuals, posts, and videos to communicate each project/event both online and offline. – Support in editing and retouching videos and photos for each project/event and for UN-Habitat’s social media platforms. – Maintain and archive all produced materials in filing system. – Conduct research to stay up to date with the latest technology and trends in visual content creation to tell stories and connect with audiences across various platforms. – Maintain UN-Habitat’s guidelines throughout all developed communication material. – Other activities and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with Bachelor’s degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent. Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite). Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Preferred areas of study: Final year of a bachelor’s degree or currently enrolled in a Master’s program or have graduated at most one year ago in the field of Graphic Design, Advertising, or any related field is required. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.
