Background:
The Rule of Law Section (RoLS), as a part of the Human Dimension Department of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina, conducts a country-wide trial monitoring programme of criminal cases, which aims to ensure that case processing complies with the Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) Constitution, international human rights instruments, and BiH’s international commitments. Findings of the monitoring program are used by the RoLS to promote necessary judicial and legal reforms and to provide assistance, advice, and training to the judiciary. Particular focus is on accountability for war crimes, hate crimes, human trafficking, gender-based violence, corruption, and organised crime. The RoLS requires the services of five interns to provide assistance to RoLS portfolio holders, including the National Legal Officers, as needed.
The Interns will be directly reporting to the relevant National Legal Officers, and, in the second instance, to the Legal Adviser, War Crimes and Transitional Justice.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be tasked with the following duties:
1. Monitoring court cases before courts in BiH, as well as the human rights situation within other justice sector institutions according to the policy and guidelines established by the Head Office;
2. Researching and analysing decisions by prosecutor’s offices and courts in BiH;
3. Tracking information in relation to electoral fraud cases, as well as hate crimes, and assist in other data collection related activities;Attending and summarizing conferences and meetings;
4. Conducting desk research in the area of criminal and transitional justice;
5. Drafting reports, memoranda, background papers, and talking points;
6. Attending and summarizing conferences and meetings;
7. Assisting in the organization of events related to the work of the RoLS;
8. Translating documents from/to BCS/ENG; and
9. Performing other duties as assigned.

Remuneration Package:
The OSCE is not in a position to pay any remuneration or cover any expenses incurred by the intern during his/her stay in Sarajevo nor reimburse travel expenses. However, interns selected who are non-residents of Sarajevo may be eligible for some compensation towards their living costs in Sarajevo.
The internship lasts up to six (6) months for citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and up to three (3) months for international applicants.
Internships do not constitute a commitment to future employment with the OSCE.
The selected intern shall provide the OSCE with evidence that he/she has health insurance coverage which is valid for Bosnia and Herzegovina, otherwise he/she shall be obliged to join the OSCE group health insurance scheme for the period of their internship, at their own expense. The OSCE will cover life and disability insurance for the duration of internship.
