Duties and Responsibilities
Org. Setting and Reporting:
The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote sustainable towns and cities. It is the focal point for urbanization and human settlement matters within the UN system. UN-Habitat works to build inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable cities, reducing inequality, discrimination, and poverty.
The intern will work under the direct supervision of the Programme Management Officer in charge of the Project “Phase 2 of Urban2030 – Supporting the implementation of the New Urban Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.”
The intern will support the concept stage of an expert group meeting on housing indicators and policies in Europe, to be held in the autumn of 2025, and other activities conducted by UN-Habitat in Europe, including administrative support.
Responsibilities:
Draft concept notes and background papers for an expert group meeting on housing indicators and policies in Europe.
Identify suitable speakers for the expert group meeting.
Assist in preparatory meetings with the European Commission Directorate-General for Regional and Urban Policies regarding the expert group meeting.
Assist in the daily work of the office team through note-taking at meetings, meeting requests, and similar tasks.
Qualifications/Special Skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
Have graduated with a Bachelor’s degree, Master’s, Ph.D., or equivalent.
Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
Have a demonstrated ability to interact successfully with individuals from different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, showing tolerance of differing opinions and views.
Preferred areas of study: Data science, computer science, economics, political science, international development, social sciences, or similar.
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience, but a field of study related to the internship is required.
Applicants must be a student in the final year of a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. Programme, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. Programme.
Good organizational skills and excellent drafting skills (English) are required.
Languages
Fluency in oral and written English is required.
Knowledge of another UN language is desirable.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations.
Costs for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of the interns or their sponsoring institutions.
Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken may need to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
