Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance is a public-private partnership committed to saving children’s lives and protecting people’s health by increasing equitable use of vaccines in lower-income countries. Gavi uses innovative finance mechanisms, including co-financing by recipient countries, to secure sustainable funding and adequate supply of quality vaccines. Department Role:
One of Gavi’s four strategic goals, as outlined in its 2021-2025 Strategy, is to improve the sustainability of national immunisation programmes. The Immunisation Financing and Sustainability (IFS) team provides strategic and thought leadership across the Secretariat on issues related to immunisation financing and sustainability, oversees the implementation of the eligibility, co-financing and transition policies, and provides functional support to country teams to maximise impact. In this regard, domestic financing for immunisation service delivery will be a critical priority and focus area for the IFS team in the context of Gavi’s new strategy focus on zero-dose children.
The following internship opportunity is available within the Immunisation Financing and Sustainability.
Key functions and deliverables:
To strengthen Gavi’s collaboration with partners and alignment with national priorities in selected countries, Gavi is looking to recruit a dynamic, results-oriented intern to join its fast-paced Secretariat in Geneva and support the IFS team to achieve its objectives.

In this capacity, the intern will be directly responsible for supporting IFS team in the implementation of cross-cutting projects relevant to the IFS team.
MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Data management and tools development
- Manage and develop IFS database and data flows that support key monitoring, reporting and analytics required by IFS team.
- Support IFS Senior Analyst in developing tools to strengthen IFS analysis and visualization capabilities.
Data analysis & visualization
Provide support to IFS team on routine analytical needs as well as special projects that include:
- Analysing overall domestic financing for vaccines, including the relationship between financing for traditional vaccines and Gavi-supported vaccines
- Identifying gaps and opportunities for advocacy and capacity-building in planning and budgeting of vaccines domestic financing needs
- Analysing the budgetary, macro, and fiscal prospects of countries in transition
- Support analytical work for the review of Gavi’s eligibility criteria
- Analysing the linkages between timely payment of co-financing and stockouts
- Identifying stockout risks associated with co-financing delays
- Support analysis on financial implications of product switches
- Development of slides on selected topics and options

QUALIFICATIONS
Academic:
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in health/development economics, economics, data science, statistics or related fields.
Work Experience:
Must have(s):
- Experience with data analysis, data interpretation and data management.
Good to have(s):
- Work in the field of global health at global or national level;
- Experience with doing analytical work in the context of global health;
Required Skills/Competencies:
- Excellent quantitative and analytical skills with economic and social data;
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (required);
- Familiarity with Power BI for the management and presentation of data and analytics (desired);
- Basic programming skills with data science software (R or Python), particularly for the management, manipulation and of data (a plus);
- Experience with database management (desired);
- Experience with Lucidcharts or MS-Visio (a plus);
- Excellent inter-personal, oral, and written communication, presentation, negotiation, and advocacy skills;
- Excellent strategic and problem-solving skills;
- Ability to take initiative in the absence of specific instructions, and to work effectively and efficiently with minimal supervision;
- Ability to work successfully in an international and multi-cultural environment;
Languages:
- Written and spoken fluency in English.
- Fluency in other languages is an asset.
