This position is based at the ESA Centre for Earth Observation (ESRIN) – Frascati, Italy

Under the direct authority of the Director General, the Communication Department is responsible for:

• Establishing and implementing the ESA communication policy, with the objective of fulfilling the Agency’s task to collect relevant information and disseminate it to Member States;
• Providing communication support for the preparation of future programmes, with the aim of heightening awareness of ESA and its space activities among the general public in the Member States;
• Acting as the Agency’s focal point and spokesperson for all interactions with the media;
• Preparing a three-year communication strategy as well as an annual communication plan presented to Council in December of each year;
• Interfacing with the Heads of Communication in the delegations of Member States through the Advisory Communication Committee (ACC);

among others.

The Print Media and Merchandising Production Office, part of the Production and Management Support Division of the ESA Communication Department, is responsible for defining, developing and maintaining a catalogue of print and non-digital media to be produced by ESA to reach the general public.  The Office is responsible for developing and managing, in close coordination with the Partnerships Unit, the relevant agreements and contracts with selected suppliers in order to consolidate the development of ESA promotional merchandise, ranging from online distribution to a franchising approach.

Field(s) of activity for the internship

Topic: Graphic Designer – Print and Merchandising

Reporting directly to the Head of the Print and Merchandising Production Office of the ESA Communication Department, as an intern, you will support the Graphic activities of the office.  You will, in particular, focus their effort on supporting the development of a whole new range of ESA merchandising via the on-line ESA Shop.  As such, she/he will develop adequate graphics, implement them on products, and ensure proper promotion of these new items.  Within this context, you will have to liaise with the concerned services to ensure correct ESA branding compliance and adequate on-line communication supporting such new product development.

Education

You must have student status and be enrolled at university for the entire duration of the internship. You should preferably be in your final or second to last year of a university course at master’s level in a technical or scientific discipline.

Additional requirements

The working languages of the Agency are English and French. A good knowledge of one of these is required. Knowledge of another Member State language would be an asset.

Additional Requirements:

• Knowledge and background in International Relations and project management is an asset
• The post is foreseen for a minimum of 3 months
