Description

The global project “Sustainability and value creation in agricultural supply chains” is part of the special initiative Transformation of agricultural and food systems (SI AGER) and promotes the sustainability of selected agricultural supply chains. Cotton, bananas, coffee, cocoa, natural rubber, palm oil and soy are agricultural raw materials that are a central dominant culture in many developing and emerging countries and a key to rural development. Agricultural supply chains are the livelihood of many hundreds of millions of small farmers. International development goals can only be achieved in cooperation with the market-defining actors at a global level. The project therefore focuses on cooperation with globally operating companies, global intermediaries, raw material suppliers and international standard organizations. Starting from the place of final consumption (consumers), the global project works along the supply chain – it works “from the SHELF to the FIELD”. The control unit in Germany coordinates implementation in the various project countries. In addition, direct contact with the client and other cooperation partners is ensured. During implementation, the project works closely with globally operating companies and other agricultural supply chain projects in order to ensure the implementation and long-term anchoring of newly developed sustainability concepts in the selected agricultural supply chains.
