Duties and Responsibilities
The internship is located in the Regional Section for South Asia, East Asia and the Pacific (RSSAEAP), Division for Operations (DO), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Vienna (Austria). The position is for a period of six months starting on 1 June 2024. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. The Intern will work five days per week (40 hours) and will be supervised by a staff member at the professional level in RSSAEAP Section For more information about UNODC, please visit: http://www.unodc.org The intern will perform the following duties which may include, but are not limited to: • Support the reporting obligations within RSSAEAP as per the established procedures and lead the matrix of these obligations • Support the preparation of the DO monthly report, high impact stories, calendars of events and other similar documents which are part of the UNODC reporting • Support functions of RSSAEAP for backstopping of the Field Offices (FOs), inter alia through coordination of inputs, communication with the FOs and other UNODC units as needed • Assist in monitoring programme delivery and preparation of relevant documents strategic programme frameworks, country profiles and work plans • Assist in preparing briefing notes, factsheets, background notes, summary reports, and other documents relevant to the region covered by RSSAEAP, including for the Executive Director, senior management, Regional Representatives, official visits and meetings, consultations with donors, sessions of the Commissions on drugs and crime, etc. • Assist in mission/event preparation and follow-up • Assist in collecting, reviewing and analyzing data from substantive UNODC units, FOs and other actors relevant to the region covered by RSSAEAP • Perform research on specific topics and produce working papers, reports, summaries, analyses, briefings, presentations and studies • Attend and take notes at meetings, produce minutes and briefings on outcomes • Draft correspondence and advocacy papers • Perform other tasks as necessary.
Qualifications/special skills
•Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have recently completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). •Be computer literate in standard software applications; • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nation and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have recently completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Applicants must have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint and MS Teams. Ability to draft news articles and/or social media posts in desirable. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
