Background

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion are core principles at UNDP:  we value diversity as an expression of the multiplicity of nations and cultures where we operate, we foster inclusion as a way of ensuring all personnel are empowered to contribute to our mission, and we ensure equity and fairness in all our actions. Taking a ‘leave no one behind’ approach to our diversity efforts means increasing representation of underserved populations. People who identify as belonging to marginalized or excluded populations are strongly encouraged to apply. Learn more about working at UNDP including our values and inspiring stories.

UNDP does not tolerate sexual exploitation and abuse, any kind of harassment, including sexual harassment, and discrimination. All selected candidates will, therefore, undergo rigorous reference and background checks.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) works in about 170 countries and territories, helping to eradicate poverty, reduce inequalities and exclusion, and build resilience so countries can sustain progress. As the UN’s development agency, UNDP plays a critical role in helping countries achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. UNDP’s work is concentrated in three focus areas; sustainable development, democratic governance and peace building, and climate and disaster resilience. UNDP partners with people at all levels of society to help build nations that can withstand crisis, and drive and sustain the kind of growth that improves the quality of life for everyone.

The UNDP Pacific Office in Fiji serves 14 countries and territories in the Pacific and offers global perspective and local insight to help empower lives and build resilient nations. UNDP has a robust resilience and sustainable development programme portfolio that includes several disaster risk resilience projects covering all Pacific Small Island Developing States (PSIDS). Under this scope, the Pacific Insurance and Climate Adaptation Programme has been jointly developed and is being implemented by the United Nations Capital Development Fund (UNCDF), the United Nations University for Enivronment and Human Security (UNU-EHS) and UNDP. UNDP’s presence, government relationships, and networks in all the PSIDS is leveraged by the Programme throughout its implementation and expansion. UNDP Fiji multi country office provides administrative and operations support to the programme covering finance, human resources, procurement, and other related functions.

The overall objective of the Pacific Insurance and Climate Adaptation Programme (PICAP) is to improve the financial preparedness and resilience of Pacific governments and communities, specifically vulnerable segments of society and economic sectors, towards climate change and natural hazards through the development and implementation of climate disaster risk financing instruments such as micro and meso level parametric insurance schemes.
