Duties and Responsibilities
The internship (unpaid) is based in the Human Resources Management Service (HRMS), Division of Administration, United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG). The internship offers an opportunity to participate in the day-to-day tasks related to the work of UNOG/HRMS and directly contribute to the development and implementation of a robust strategic communications plan to strengthen HRMS’ position as a premier service provider within the UN Secretariat. The intern will work under the supervision of a Human Resources Officer and Communications Officer. Duties and Responsibilities The daily responsibilities may include, but are not limited to: • Drafting layouts of outreach, promotional and informational material, such as PowerPoint presentations, videos, flyers and brochures. • Supporting the maintenance and transformation of the UNOG/HRMS intranet website. • Researching global communications best-practices and creating a knowledge repository for such findings. • Assisting with the review of existing communications products and practices to strengthen internal communication channels. • Providing assistance in the translation of written content from English to French. • Reviewing English-language webpages and performing quality checks on the translation of French-language versions. • Performing other tasks as necessary.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) in a related field such as Communications, Public Relations, or International Relations.; (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in a related field such as Communications, Public Relations, or International Relations. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work.experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Programme. Do you meet any of the above criteria? If yes, please indicate which one and attach proof to the application. Please note that you will have to provide an official certificate at a later stage. Interested candidates must have: • Experience working with graphic design software (e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Canva, etc.) and web content management systems (e.g. Drupal, WordPress, Wix, etc.) • Proficiency in using corporate digital communication tools and platforms, particularly PowerPoint and SharePoint is advantageous. • Strong written and verbal communication skills • The ability to work independently and as part of a team. • Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Languages
Fluency in English and French is required, as all internal communications at UNOG are conducted in these two languages. This position requires preparation of communication materials in French.
Additional Information
The internship will be conducted in-person at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. The intern will be provided with a laptop and necessary IT equipment and software, and a working space. The internship will be full time and in person, starting in October and will last for 4 to 6 months. The modality can be handled flexibly on request of the successful candidate.

Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
