IRI is creating student and employee partnerships that facilitate growth and development of IRI’s future leadership. The intern will support the work of IRI’s Latin America and the Caribbean Division.
This position will start on May 20, 2024 for no more than fifteen (15) weeks and may not be extended. This is a paid position, at $17.50 per hour. Intern working hours will be minimum 30 hours per week. This will be a hybrid internship, with the intern expected to be in IRI’s office 3-4 times per week.
Position Requirements:
- Current student in or recent graduate of an undergraduate or graduate program in Political Science, International Affairs, Latin American Studies, or related field.
- Excellent verbal and written skills in English and Spanish
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office
- Detail-oriented individual with strong organizational skills
- Ability to manage time effectively, complete tasks with minimal oversight, and communicate clearly and consistently in a virtual work environment.
- Availability to work on-site for 3-4 days a week is preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in research of a variety of topics for briefing papers, program proposals, and reports
- Support key record keeping functions of the division, including taking minutes as staff meetings, cleaning databases (contact lists, program inventory, etc.)
- Monitor domestic and international media outlets daily for news on topics assigned and synthesize the information to produce condensed political updates
- Assist in preparing reports and presentations
- Assist staff with program administration and events, including interview coding, logistics and other tasks as needed
- Translate documents, reports and meeting notes from English to Spanish and vice versa, as assigned
- Write as a contributor to IRI’s blog and IRI’s Latin America Twitter account
Learning Outcomes:
- Acquire knowledge of the democracy and governance field of international development in Latin America, including aspects related to program management, monitoring and evaluation, program and business development, and external affairs.
- Gain experience in key project administration skills employers look for in entry level candidates.
