Duties and Responsibilities
This internship is located in the Triangular Partnership Programme (TPP) in the Support Partnerships Service (SPS), the Division for Special Activities (DSA) in the Department of Operational Support (DOS) at the United Nations Headquarters in New York.
The mission of the United Nations Department of Operational Support (DOS) is to provide operational advisory services to operating entities across the Secretariat, including other departments, offices-away-from headquarters, field missions, and regional commissions. DSA oversees a range of specialized or cross-cutting operational capacities. A large part of
its responsibilities is to support start-up, surge, and transition requirements and to exercise authority on behalf of entities to which authority has not been granted owing to a lack of capacity or from which authority has been temporarily withdrawn. SPS coordinates and maintains bilateral and trilateral relationships with key partners, such as regional organizations, other United Nations actors and governments, for the receipt or provision of operational support from or to Secretariat entities. TPP is one of the outcomes of the September 2014 Summit on UN Peacekeeping and aims to enhance the Enabling Capabilities for peacekeeping. TPP comprises the United Nations supporting Member States and Troop-Contributing Countries (TCCs).
The Intern reports to the Programme Officer. The internship is for an initial period of three months and may be extended up to six months depending on the needs of the Division. The internship is unpaid and can be full-time, parttime,
or remote. Interns work four to five days per week (20 to 35 hours), with supervision.

Our interns work as members of our team in the TPP/SPS/DSA; pursue projects that are designed to make a significant difference in DOS, and have opportunities to learn about the United Nations overall. We offer internship opportunities in two areas:

AREA 1: STRATEGIC AND PROJECT SUPPORT
•Help analyze information gathered on the use of non-staff capacities across functional areas
and entities;
•Support the planning and organization of engineering and medical training under TPP
•Support the drafting and editing of relevant correspondence

AREA 2: ANALYTICS AND BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE
•Help analyze use of non-staff capacities across functional areas and entities;
•Support the teams in preparing data, data models, and surveys
•Develop dashboards and visualizations for senior managers, and provide user support
•Support data mining, optimization, metrics development, and predictive analysis
Qualifications/special skills
1) Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s degree or equivalent);
2) The field of study must be closely related to the type of internship you are applying for;
Good knowledge of standard software applications, specifically MS Excel and PowerPoint if required/desirable.
Ability to draft news articles and social media posts is required/desirable.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the
official languages of the United Nations Secretariat
