Duties and Responsibilities
Org. Setting and Reporting The United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) is the agency for human settlements mandated by the UN General Assembly to promote socially and environmentally sustainable towns and cities. Together with governments, the agency is responsible for promoting and consolidating collaboration with all partners, including local authorities and private and non-governmental organizations, in the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The Global Water Operators` Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA) is located in the Urban Basic Services Section of UN-Habitat and aims to help water and sanitation operators help each other to achieve universal access to sustainable water and sanitation services in support of the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda. GWOPA promotes, facilitates and coordinates the effective use of not-for-profit partnerships between water operators and is the principle source for WOPs knowledge and guidance. This intern post is located in the GWOPA Secretariat at the Bonn duty station. The Internship is for 6 months and UNPAID. Interns work five days per week (37.5 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Responsibilities The intern will report directly to the Programme Management Officer and work under the overall supervision of the GWOPA Head of Office. The intern will focus his/her work on one or more of the following thematic and operational areas of GWOPA: Communications: • Collaborate with the GWOPA team to conceptualize and create engaging multimedia content including videos, podcasts, infographics, flyers, brochures, and other visual/audio materials. • Drafting and editing content for public information materials, including social media posts, newsletters, web stories etc; • Assist in the preparation and implementation of GWOPA outreach activities and workshops. • Assist in knowledge development, documentation and management of the UN-Habitat Urban Basic Services Communities of Practice. • Assist with the content management of the GWOPA website and other digital tools of GWOPA. • Undertake other assignments as required for the development and implementation of the work programme of GWOPA and in accordance with the intern’s interests and experience. Desirable Skills: • Knowledge of social media platforms (LinkedIn, X, Facebook) and content management systems. • Strong creative and visual storytelling skills with an eye for design and aesthetics. • Knowledge of design software: illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop (Adobe XD would be desirable) • Expertise in Microsoft software: Office365, SharePoint, Teams, Excel, Power BI; • Proven team-working ability; • Excellent communication skills with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment; • Proficiency in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, etc.) and audio editing tools is not mandatory, but desirable; • Knowledge or interest in augmented reality (AR) platforms like HoloLens, with a capability to ideate and develop AR experiences is not mandatory, but desirable. • Photography and drone experience is not mandatory but desirable, adding a unique perspective and capability to capture engaging content from different angles and elevations. Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher), b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent), c. Have graduated with Bachelor’s degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent. Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite). Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Preferred areas of study: Studies in Media, Digital Communication, Computer Sciences, Graphic Design, and Visual Communication and other relevant fields Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship position, fluency in oral and written English is required. Knowledge of Spanish, French or Arabic is desirable.
