Duties and Responsibilities
The Partnerships Unit is the marketing, promotion, and distribution office for the products and services which NMD produces. This includes placement of UN multimedia products on various media platforms and other outlets both traditional and non-traditional; production and dissemination of promotional materials for NMD products and services; presence at high-level events, conferences, local and international media markets; and analytical and statistical reports on usage of NMD products. This internship is located in the Partnerships Unit, Digital and Promotion Branch (DPB), News and Media Division (NMD), Department of Global Communications (DGC). The internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work for five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of the Chief, Partnerships Unit. The intern will work in a team-oriented environment to conduct research on various topics related to the marketing and promotion of UN multimedia products and services to world broadcasters and other types of outlets with the objective of bringing more partnerships. The intern will provide assistance on various projects, from contributing ideas during an initial phase to putting those ideas into action and following up with action plans. The tasks assigned may include: – Identifying and contacting potential media outlet clients for UN multimedia content, with the aim of securing broadcast/dissemination partnerships; – Researching and identifying opportunities for strategic partnerships to enlarge the audience for UN-produced media products; – Analyzing data analytics for insight into audience usage of UN multimedia content to produce recommendations for marketing and promotion strategy – Assisting in the preparation for special events which may take place during the internship period, including organizing promotional materials for distribution; – Researching, analyzing, and reporting information on assigned topics/issues from diverse sources; – Drafting letters and email messages, compiling promotional kits, etc.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants must also: -Be computer literate in standard software applications – Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the UN Charter -Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Demonstrated proficiency in using online and offline research tools is required. Familiarity with HTML, presentation software/platform, are desirable. Experience in digital marketing and distribution, public relations, communications, information studies, journalism, broadcast media, or related fields (paid or unpaid) is desirable. National/international experience is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN official language is desirable.
