Healthy Oceans and Sustainable Blue Economies
2. Summary of Job Description
• Conduct a systematic search and review of relevant academic and policy sources on Healthy Oceans and Sustainable Blue Economies, focusing specifically on ADB’s Pacific developing member countries (Pacific DMCs). Explore themes such as ocean governance, marine conservation, blue economy sectors, ocean financing, ocean innovation, and ocean literacy.
• Analyze and compare the different approaches, frameworks, indicators, and outcomes of the global efforts on Healthy Oceans and Sustainable Blue Economies, identifying the gaps, challenges, opportunities, and lessons learned.
• Develop a basic conceptual model and a set of criteria tailored for ADB’s Pacific DMCs to assess their effectiveness and impact of the global efforts on Healthy Oceans and Sustainable Blue Economies and apply them to selected case studies.
• Prepare a clear, concise, and well-structured report and a power point presentation that presents the research objectives, methodology, results, discussion, and recommendations, following the user’s guidelines and standards.
• Deliver the report and the presentation to the user by the agreed deadline and incorporate the user’s feedback and suggestions for improvement.

5. Expected Outcomes
• A comprehensive literature review on the current state of the oceans and the threats they face from climate change, pollution, overfishing, habitat loss, invasive species, and other factors in ADB’s Pacific DMCs.
• An analysis of the existing policies, frameworks and initiatives in ADB’s Pacific DMCs that aim to protect and restore the oceans and promote sustainable blue economies, both at the global and regional levels.
• A case study of a specific country or region, preferably within Pacific DMCs or small island countries in other regions. The focus should be on their successful implementation or development of a blue economy strategy, highlighting the best practices, challenges and lessons learned.
• A set of recommendations and action plans for enhancing the health of the oceans and fostering sustainable blue economies, addressing the gaps and challenges identified in the literature review and the case study, specifically tailored for ADB’s Pacific DMCs.
• A presentation of the main findings and recommendations of the research, using appropriate visual aids and communication tools.
Qualifications
6. Education Requirements
• An intern who is a candidate for a master’s degree or higher in environmental studies, marine science, economics, or a related field. Must be currently enrolled.
7. Relevant Experience
Intern preferably meets the following requirements:
• Some experience in conducting research and analysis on Healthy Oceans and Sustainable Blue Economies, or a similar topic.
• Knowledge about current trends, challenges, and opportunities in the field of Healthy Oceans and Sustainable Blue Economies, and familiarity with the relevant actors, institutions, and networks.
• Strong skills in literature review, data collection, analysis, synthesis, and reporting, using quantitative and qualitative methods.
• Proficiency in using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other software tools for research and presentation.
• Fluency in English, both written and spoken, and ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear and concise manner.
• High level of professionalism, reliability, and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, and to manage time and tasks effectively.
