Position title: Intern, Policy   
Location: Geneva, Switzerland with possibility of remote 
Purpose of the position: Contribute to vaccine policy development through consultations and critical study. 
Team: Policy 
Reports to: Manager, Vaccine Policy

Duration: Up to 24 weeks 
The Policy Team at Gavi manages the Vaccine Investment Strategy (VIS), a comprehensive review that occurs every five years to identify and prioritize future immunization investments of significant public health importance for Gavi-supported countries. This strategic process recently concluded, and the Policy Team is now responsible for following the actions made and continuing to monitor and evaluate diseases with epidemic and pandemic potential. In this context, Gavi is seeking an intern to support the Policy Team in various responsibilities, including monitoring and evaluating diseases with epidemic potential, developing and refining a standard operating procedure (SOP) for the introduction of new vaccines into the portfolio, and supporting the team in the follow up on VIS actions. 
There is one internship position available Aug-Dec 2024. 
Key results expected 
  • Supporting the Policy Team in monitoring and evaluating diseases with epidemic and pandemic potential;
  • Supporting the Policy Team to develop and refine standard operating procedures for the introduction of new immunisation products into the portfolio;
  • Assist the Policy Team in the follow-up of Vaccine Investment Strategy 2024 actions;
  • Supporting the Policy team with internal and external stakeholder management;
  • Gaining global health skills and knowledge, including Gavi vaccine stakeholders, R&D financing, vaccine delivery priorities, and policy making. 
Main Duties/Responsibilities
  • Assist with the preparation of relevant summaries and other communication materials for internal and external stakeholder engagement (including working group meetings);
  • Support efforts to develop and assess different diseases and processes;
  • Prepare summary documents, presentations, and reports related to analyses and consultations for meetings with senior Gavi leadership;
  • Assist the team with project management duties;
  • Participate in the development and refinement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for new immunisation products.

Qualifications
Academic: 
  • Degree in public health, epidemiology, science, environmental sciences, political sciences, development, or a related field. 
Work experience: 
  • Minimum of 1 years’ previous work experience;
  • Currently pursuing a recognised educational programme in a field related to Gavi’s activities, leading to a formal undergraduate or post-graduate qualification/degree; or having completed the qualification/degree within a twelve-month period at the time of application.
Skills/Competencies: 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; 
  • Good quantitative skills and proficiency in data research;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Powerpoint, Excel, and Word;
  • Some familiarity with the global health environment and actors;
  • Some experience in vaccines, epidemiology and infectious diseases;
  • Some experience working in diverse environments;
  • Demonstrated ability to think thorough and strategically;  
  • Ability to work independently and iteratively, and effectively prioritise and execute tasks in a fast-paced, open environment. 
Languages: 
  • Written and spoken fluency in English; 
  • Other languages (particularly French) a plus.
