Internship at the Private Sector Operations Department/Private Sector Financial Institutions Division (PSOD/PSFI)
1. INTERNSHIP TOPIC
Development and Implementation of the Green/Sustainable Financially-intermediated Approach in Partnership with the Relevant Sector/Regional/Thematic Organizational Framework of ADB’s New Operating Model
ADB Private Sector Operations Department (PSOD) has developed the Climate Finance Ambition Plan to support the decarbonisation and climate-resilient development of the private sector in ADB’s Developing Member Countries (DMCs). PSOD takes an economy-wide but DMC-specific approach focusing on key sectors with the highest potential to achieve positive mitigation, adaptation and value chain impact through direct and indirect channels. PSFI delivers financing as well as technical assistance (TA) and capacity building to the qualified financial institutions in the DMCs for (i) on-lending to private sector borrowers (households and SMEs) for sustainable energy and climate change mitigation and adaption and disaster resilient investments as well as (ii) greening the financial institutions by supporting their transition planning. A successful candidate will contribute to the development and implementation of the green / sustainable financing approach in partnership with the relevant sector / regional / thematic organizational framework of the ADB’s New Operating Model.
2. SUMMARY OF JOB DESCRIPTION
• Provide technical input from design and assessment of financially intermediated ESG / sustainable finance program by collecting and analyzing background data to support project scoping, due diligence, design and structuring, and drafting of relevant documents.
• Provide technical input in the development, design and implementation of TA projects, incl conducting background desk research, drafting of the Terms of Reference, collecting input for blended finance application form, donor funding requests and donor reporting, etc.
• Provide technical input in the preparation of sector-wide assessments of sustainable finance / ESG reporting / Paris Alignment in a specific DMC incl country and climate context, sectoral baseline, benchmark settings, etc.
• Perform other administrative tasks as required.
3. PERIOD OF ASSIGNMENT
• Duration: 11 weeks
• Timing: January 2025 onwards
4. LOCATION
ADB Headquarters, Manila, Philippines
5. EXPECTED OUTCOMES
• Presentation of the body of research at the PSFI team meeting.
• Potential presentation of the research work at the PSOD departmental meeting (if relevant).
• Reports and presentations to their supervisors which will be the basis for the final evaluation of the interns.
Qualifications
6. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
• A Master’s- or PhD-level program at a school in one of the ADB member countries, prior to and after the internship assignment in a field of ESG / sustainable finance, economics, international development, business or public finance administration from a leading university.
• Excellent IT skills, including use of presentational and communications software (e.g. PowerPoint).
• Strong analytical, quantitative and qualitative skills, including knowledge of Excel.
7. RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
• Prior experience working with international organization is an asset;
• Excellent communications, partnership and interpersonal stills and ability to interact effectively with ADB staff from a variety of backgrounds;
• Results oriented with good time management skills and ability to devise creative solutions;
• Familiarity with the ADB DMCs and work or study experience in the region is helpful;
• Excellent command of written and spoken English;
