Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Information Centers (UNICs) belong to the Information Centres Services (ICS), Campaigns and Country Operations (CCOD) of the Department of Global Communication (DGC). The UNICs are the principal sources of information about the United Nations system in the countries where they are located. They are also responsible for promoting greater public understanding of, and support the aims and activities of, the United Nations by disseminating information on the work of the Organization to people everywhere, especially in developing countries. This internship is located in the United Nations Information Centre in Canberra, Australia. The duration of the internship is 5 months during an academic semester. The internship is UNPAID and part-time, to suit academic obligations, and is scheduled to commence in June or August 2024. Interns work up to two days per week (14 hours) part-time, under the supervision of the Public Information Assistant and other office staff. Responsibilities The selected intern will perform duties to include, but not limited to, the following: • Assist with the planning and delivery of a two-day conference to be held in November 2024. • Assist with content and design of videos, social media posts and conduct analysis of social media metrics; • Assist with the production of communication products (eg. Websites) •Conducting research, compiling information, coordinating logistics, and assisting with public enquiries; • Assist with preparations for other events, high-level visitors from headquarters and field offices, and speaking engagements; •Compile, analyse and organise data for office reports; • Attend meetings and draft summaries; • Perform other tasks as necessary.
Qualifications/special skills
Please note that to qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Program, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: • Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school program (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or • Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent) Applicants must also: • Be computer literate in standard software applications including Microsoft Office 365 and Google programs • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. “No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in English is required.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization. Successful candidates should discuss their specific visa requirements before accepting the internship offer.
