This internship is for a period of 3 to 6 months starting at the earliest possible and is designed to be conducted in person on a part-time modality (less than thirty-four (34) hours per week).
Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Safety and Security (UNDSS) is responsible for providing leadership, operational support, and oversight of the United Nations security management system (UNSMS) globally. As a global leader in security risk management principles, UNDSS enables the safe and effective delivery of United Nations programmes and activities in the most complex and challenging environments, while maximizing precious resources. To this end, the work of the Department is aligned under a clear mission, to enable United Nations system programme activities through trusted security leadership and solutions. This position is located in the Department of Safety and Security (DSS), Division of Partnerships and Specialized Support (DPSS), Resource Mobilization Unit (RMU).

The intern will report to the Head of the Resource Mobilization Unit. The internship is for a period of three (3) to six (6) months, depending on the needs of the Department. The internship is UNPAID and part-time. This internship is designed to be conducted in person but can be adapted to accommodate hybrid arrangements (20 hours per week), on an exceptional basis.

Under the overall guidance and direct supervision of the Chief, DSS/RMU, the intern will work in close collaboration with the members of RMU team, ensuring timely support in conducting normative work of the Team.

The intern is expected to undertake the following duties:

– Support outreach with aim of deepening and diversification of donors.
– Assist in conducting research on potential partnerships and events.
– Assist with logistics during in-person and virtual meetings, ensuring that conference services are fully in place, interactive presentations are well conducted.
– Assist in preparatory and logistical arrangements ahead of internal and external meetings. Take notes from meetings.
– Contribute to strategic partnerships communications including social media and newsletters.
– Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent);or
(c) have graduated with a university degree (as defined above).

Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work.
experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.

1. Be computer literate and proficient in standard software applications (e.g., MS Office 365
or similar, especially MS Word, MS Power Point and MS Teams);
2. Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal
commitment to the ideals of the Charter;
3. Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural
backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of
differing opinions and views.
4. Ability to manage multiple tasks and adhere to deadlines.
5. Proficiency in written and verbal communication, including the ability to draft reports
and newsletter content is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is desirable.
