Duties and Responsibilities
Org. Setting and Reporting: This internship is located in the Co-financing and Partnership Section (CPS), Public Affairs and Policy Support Branch (PAB), Division for Policy Analysis and Public Affairs (DPA), United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Vienna, Austria. The Co-financing and Partnership Section has the following functional responsibilities: to provide vision, leadership and direction in respect of the global resource mobilisation strategy of UNODC; to ensure operational efficiency between headquarters policies and field office delivery through the development and maintenance of efficient tools for clearing funding agreements, financial programming, disbursements and reporting. To promote and deepen strategic partnerships with the aim of diversifying the UNODC resource base with major and emerging donors, the EU institutions, UN agencies, other intergovernmental and regional development finance organisations, as well as the private corporate sector, including foundations; The internship is for six (6) months with a desired starting date of May 1, 2024. The position is UNPAID and full-time, i.e. five days (40 hours) per week under the supervision of a staff member in the receiving department or office. For information on the work of UNODC, please visit www.unodc.org Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Section and the External Relations Officer, the intern will: • Provide policy support in the elaboration, structuring and implementation of fundraising activities: identify potential sources of funding and potential partners through the range of national/international and governmental/non-governmental organisations, private foundations in accordance with the UNODC Strategy and fundraising action plan; • Research and draw assessments of donors’ interests, trends and priorities, policy development, and make recommendations for exploring new avenues of fund-raising; compile and contribute to donor-mapping and donor-specific policy notes on UNODC mandate areas; • Contribute to the drafting and preparation of the briefing notes, speaking points and background notes for the Executive Director and relevant senior management’s travel to and/or meetings with donor countries, their agencies and representatives; • Attend events, meetings and conferences as appropriate and draft minutes, summary reports, and support the Section with routine internal documents, presentations as well as correspondence with Member State donors and partners; • Support with the design of infographics, webpages, and presentations related to the work of the Section, including SharePoint pages and iSeek and assist with the technical / ICT arrangements for webinars, online or hybrid events. • Perform other work-related duties as required.
Qualifications/special skills
– Have excellent research, analytical skills, drafting and report writing experience; – Be computer literate and familiar with standard office software applications and on-line online meeting platforms. – Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and – Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.

Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
