Internship at the South Asia Department (SARD) / Operations Coordination Unit (SAOC)
1. Internship Topic
User-centric Knowledge Solutions for Public Sector Clients in ADB’s South Asian Member Countries
2. Summary of Job Description
The Knowledge Management (KM) team of the Operations Coordination Unit (SAOC) or the South Asia Department (SARD) seeks a Knowledge Management and Communications Intern to support KM and the development of knowledge products and services on key areas of the department’s knowledge work in 2025, including digital transformation and technology and
information/data management, among others.
In 2025, SAOC is leading the production of a multi-country regional study on Digital Public Infrastructure and is funding technical assistance activities in several countries, including an investigation into the enabling environment and infrastructure for digital payments (including cross-border) in Bhutan and Nepal. These studies are planned to be completed by mid-2025 and are meant to be actively disseminated to our member Governments and stakeholders. SAOC is keen to develop a range of knowledge sharing formats and activities which the Knowledge Management and Communications intern would be asked to draft, design, and produce. These user-centric (based on online interviews) knowledge products would need to be designed with a view to enhancing the uptake of the knowledge and insights which will be generated through the technical assistance activity (i.e. studies). Such products will contribute to delivering integrated and comprehensive knowledge solutions, addressing the knowledge needs of our client(s).
The intern’s activities will support the implementation of the ADB Knowledge Management Action Plan 2021-2025 (KMAP) in SARD. The KMAP supports the delivery of better knowledge solutions to ADB’s developing member countries. The intern will join SAOC KM and Communications team members in collaborating with the country-based focals (ADB staff) in the SARD Knowledge Network and provide support to the SAOC team on relevant activities as identified by the KM team supervisor. This may include the KM processes and procedures in SAOC, expanding the visibility of KM initiatives, enhancing and refining the ADB-internal KM Portal or the coordination of knowledge events.
3. Period of Assignment
Duration:11 weeks
Timing: June 2025 onwards
4. Location
ADB Headquarters, Manila, Philippines
5. Expected Outcomes
• At least three knowledge products (such as blogs, briefs (e.g. South Asia Innovation Project Brief), interviews, interactive/multi-media, in-country dissemination events, etc.) drafted/designed and produced;
• At least one knowledge event designed (i.e. concept note and annotated agenda with speaker proposals);
• Supervisor/s updated weekly, summarizing activities, presenting milestones (drafts) and insights from consultations undertaken;
• Presentation slide deck prepared and presented (e.g. through a South Asia Seminar Series webinar) near the end of the assignment made on a mutually agreed topic – either relevant to the thematic focus of SAOC knowledge products or on KM processes or procedures;
• Preparation of a slide deck that documents the outputs of the internship.
Qualifications
6. Education Requirements
Currently enrolled in a Master’s or Ph.D. in Communications, Media Studies, Journalism, Adult Education/Lifelong Learning, Public Policy, International Development, or related field.
7. Relevant Experience and Other Requirements
• Relevant research experience in an international context will be an advantage.
• Have good analytical skills in carrying out research, identifying, viewing, and analyzing information sources.
• Good understanding of KM and its interface with human psychology, adult learning, group dynamics, behavioral economics, and organizational IT systems.
• Command of any South Asian national language (written) is considered an added advantage.
