Duties and Responsibilities
This post is located in the United Nations Security and Safety Service (UNSSS), Division for Management (DM) of the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV). The Intern reports to the Planning Team Lieutenant. The position supports the work of the Security and Safety Service – Security Planning Team. The internship is for six (6) months with a desired starting date in June 2024. The position will be UNPAID and full-time, i.e. five days (40 hours per week) under the Supervision of the Deputy Chief of SSS Vienna. For information on the work of UNOV kindly visit www.unov.org Within assigned authority, the Intern will be responsible for the following duties: • Assist in preparing, drafting, editing and reviewing a broad range of documents; • Contribute to the preparation of various written outputs, e.g., policy reviews, reports, data inputs, briefing notes, communication outputs, etc.; • Assist the Security Planning Team with project coordination related functions; • Provide support, particularly in data input in Excel format files as well as in Humanity (duty scheduling application); • Design, develop and maintain Excel files for statistics extraction purposes; • Assist the Planning Lieutenant, the Scheduling Coordinator and the Security Coordinator in duty specific ad-hoc functions; • Day-to-day assistance with staff management • Assist in the Pass Office with picture taking and other administrative tasks weekly; • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). For this particular Internship interested candidates are expected to be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent) in Information Technology, Communication or related area. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams. Ability to do research in various topics is desirable
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English (oral and written proficiency) is required. Knowledge of another United Nations language is desirable. Working knowledge of German is an advantage.
