JOB PURPOSE
The WFP Pakistan Supply Chain Internship Program offers a unique opportunity for young professionals to gain practical experience and contribute to addressing food security challenges in Pakistan and Afghanistan. This program aims to develop a diverse talent pool and enhance skills in warehouse management, supply chain optimization, and sustainable initiatives. Through hands-on responsibilities such as systems mapping, warehouse consolidation studies, site development exploration, funding identification, and inventory management optimization, interns will actively contribute to improving operational efficiency and emergency response. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)
- Develop a comprehensive systems map for the WFP Pakistan warehouse system, covering Karachi, Peshawar, and Quetta. Consider the estimated volume flow and optimize space utilization within WFP Pakistan’s warehouses. Identify areas for improvement to enhance efficiency under the lead of Head of Supply Chain/ Supply Chain Officer.
- Conduct a study on the potential consolidation of warehouses. Evaluate feasibility, benefits, and challenges, and provide recommendations for each consolidation.
- Collaborate with the Pakistan Head of Supply Chain and Logistics Staff to explore the development of different optimisation strategies to enhance cost efficiencies.
- Support Supply Chain Officer in developing a emergency preparedness plans.
- Work with relevant headquarters units, Regional Bureau and Logistics Cluster to identify funding opportunities for sustainable and environmentally friendly initiatives. Assist in preparing grant applications to secure additional funding.
- Examine the best warehouse practices implementation across all Pakistan WFP warehouses. Ensure effective application of the first-in, first-out (FIFO) principle. Utilize WFP’s corporate Palantir system to assess and improve stock monitoring, forecasting, and replenishment procedures.
DELIVERABLES
- Comprehensive systems map for the WFP Pakistan-Afghanistan staging warehouse system, including Karachi, Peshawar, and Quetta. The map should optimize space utilization, consider volume flow, and highlight areas for improvement.
- Study report on the potential consolidation of warehouses in Peshawar and Karachi, outlining feasibility, benefits, challenges, and recommendations for each consolidation.
- Proposal for developing the Quetta site, exploring the transition from a Mobile Storage Unit field warehouse to a fully compliant enclosed fixed structure warehouse. The proposal should include assessing requirements, costs, benefits, and potential challenges.
- Identify funding opportunities for sustainable initiatives and assistance in preparing grant applications. Documentation of funding sources and potential collaborations.
- Evaluation report on implementing best warehouse practices across WFP warehouses in Pakistan. Recommendations for improving inventory management, including inventory accuracy, stock-out reduction, and optimization of inventory levels.
STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Undergraduate, Bachelor’s degree (within six months prior to the application to the internship programme) from a recognized university and have attended classes in the last 12 months of enrolment in the university in Social Sciences, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Mathematics, Statistics or any other relevant field.
Education: Previous experience in Freight Forwarding, Shipping is an advantage
Knowledge & Skills:
- Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point)
- Proven experience in data analysis, statistical modeling, and machine learning techniques.
- Familiarity with data visualization tools and techniques. Proficiency in programming languages such as Python is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Language:
Fluency in English Required
