Organizational Context
This internship provides an avenue for soon-to-be graduates or recent graduates to gain experience in an international humanitarian organization. It is an opportunity to be directly involved and know the Federation’s Response System at the international/regional level, as well as an opportunity to acquire professional skills in the management of Rapid Response Personnel. The WASH IM intern, under the supervision of the Senior Officer, Emergency WASH, is an integral part of the Asia Pacific Regional Office (APRO) Health, Disaster, Climate and Crisis (HDCC) team. He/She will collaborate closely with National Society and IFRC WASH and Health focal points in the Asia Pacific region, primarily focusing on data collection and analysis, and the development of IM products in response to user requests and assist in the management and updates of the created IM products.
Job Purpose
The internship position will support the development of IM products for operations and other regional activities that will be carried out to ensure strong consolidation of information and resources for the region in line with regional priorities. Specific job duties are as per outlined below.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Senior Officer, Emergency WASH, the intern will:
- Support the development of IM products such as maps, dashboards, infographics, etc., to provide visualization of on-going emergency WASH operations and related response and preparedness activities in the WASH sector
- Develop data collection tools (such as Kobo form) and analysis tools to enable effective and fit-for-purpose data collection and analysis
- Maintain databases and web-based dashboard through collaboration with relevant partners/stakeholders to update the data and features
- Provide support to increase data and information literacy of IFRC members and National Society staff and volunteers in information management related to WASH sector, with technical support from the IM Coordinator
Education
A degree in Information management, GIS, Disaster management or a related field
Experience
- Experience or knowledge in the development and use of information management, database system, and other information management tools, systems and procedures.
- Experience or knowledge with graphic design and data visualisation with the ability to translate complex digital information into clear and attractive graphic representations using business analytic platforms like Power BI
- Familiarity with the WASH sector would be an added advantage
Knowledge and skills
- Experience with graphic design and data visualisation with the ability to translate complex digital information into clear and meaningful graphic representations using business analytic platforms. Knowledge and experience using Power BI is essential.
- Experience in mobile data collection particularly KoBo toolbox.
- Strong research and analytical skills.
- Strong computer literacy skills with advanced skills in MS Excel.
- Proficient in MS Office, mainly Excel, Google Sheets or similar.
- Basic knowledge in humanitarian work and the WASH sector would be an asset.
- Familiarity with MS Teams, Zoom, YouTube, MailChimp, and other online interactive tools such as Miro, Menti, Jamboard would be an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to convey findings, prepare reports and present information to stakeholders effectively
- Has a friendly disposition and adaptable in managing and collaborating with diverse stakeholders such as IFRC staff based at country delegations and staff and volunteers of various National Societies
Languages
- Fluently spoken and written English.

Deployment condition and duration
This will be six months hybrid internship program, based at the IFRC Asia Pacific Regional Office in Kuala Lumpur. Number of days working from the IFRC office in Kuala Lumpur and remote home-based work will be determined as per the workplan and mutually agreed between the immediate supervisor and the intern.
The intern is responsible for the arrangement of health insurance for the entire internship period of six months.
