Founded in 2011, the International NGO Safety Organisation (INSO) is an international non-governmental organisation that supports humanitarian aid workers by establishing safety coordination platforms in insecure contexts. INSO provides registered NGOs with a range of free services, including real-time incident tracking, analytical reports, safety-related data and mapping, crisis management support, staff orientations and training.
INSO provides daily support to more than 1,200 NGOs operating in 17 of the world’s most insecure countries. INSO is registered in the Netherlands, with its headquarters based in The Hague, the international city of peace and justice.

Job Summary
As the Internal Auditor, you conduct audits and appraise the adequacy and effectiveness of INSO’s operating, reporting, and compliance processes and controls. You provide the highest level of professional service but also maintain the highest ethical standards and due professional care.
As part of the Internal Audit department team, you produce value-adding audit reports that are clear, concise, timely and solutions-driven and maintain strong relationships across the organization.
This position is based in the Hague, Netherlands or can be based in an INSO Country Office. To be based in The Hague, you must have the right live and work in the Netherlands.
Major Responsibilities
- Conduct country offices audits and special reviews.
- Prepare audits findings that clearly describe the conditions, criteria, cause, effect and recommendations to mitigate control deficiencies and improve processes.
- Prepare audit methodology and audit samples.
- Adhere to the Institute of Internal Auditors professional standards.
- Assist the Internal Audit Manager to continuously improve the audit process through new tools and techniques.
- Support large and complex engagements, potentially one or more assignment simultaneously.
- Perform digital data analytics, collaboration, trend analysis as a means to arrive at audit evidence to support audit findings and recommendations
- Evaluate the Country Office (CO) internal controls using auditees Risk Registers, internal control documents, policies etc.
- Provide input to the audit program outlining the extent of sampling required and schedule of engagements.
- Actively engage with CO Senior Management Team to gain a good understanding of their operations and ensure efficient execution of the audit.
- Ensure complete and timely wrap-up to include preparation of audit or advisory reports.
- Follow-up implementation of audit findings to ensure issues are resolved.
Mandatory Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Audit, Accounting, Finance or related field.
- At least three years progressive responsibility conducting internal/ external audits.
- Experience working for a global or not-for-profit organization.
- Organizational and time-management skills; proven ability to prioritize and deliver on time.
- Knowledge base of audit industry practices.
- High professional standards and ability to comply with Institute of Internal Auditors guidelines.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- High-level of adaptability.
- Willingness to travel 60-70% of the time to INSO Country Office locations.
- The right to live and work in the Netherlands if based at HQ.
Nice to Have
- Professional certification (ACCA, CPA, CIA, CISA, ACFE) or partial qualification.
- Fluency in French.
- Experience working in multi-cultural environments.
- Demonstrable knowledge of humanitarian donor regulations (ECHO, FCDO, BHA, SDC, SIDA, )
- Strong working knowledge of Arabic, Spanish, Portuguese or French.
Salaire
Terms & Conditions
12-month full-time fixed-term contract (renewable) based in The Hague, Netherlands. Dutch Employment Agreement with a €4,800 per month gross salary + 8% vacation pay (vakantiegeld) and 2.5 days annual leave accrued per month. A relocation allowance is available. The right to live and work in the Netherlands is required for this position if based in The Hague, Netherlands.
