About Us
We are seeking an experienced individual to join our Internal Audit team as an Internal Auditor. The contractor will be reporting to the Finance and Services Division of the Charity. This role involves conducting regular internal audits of Muslim Hands’ partners in finance-related and compliance matters. This is a unique opportunity to move beyond standard statutory audit assignments and apply your audit skills in a global, challenging, and rewarding sector. Your work will be vital to the success of international charity development projects.
Main Responsibilities:
As an Internal Auditor, your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting in the development of an annual Internal Audit plan for the assigned country/ region using an appropriate risk-based methodology, including any risk or control concerns identified by management in-line with the Main Audit Strategy.
- Implementing the approved annual Internal Audit plan, including any special tasks or projects assigned by the line manager.
- Conducting audits in line with industry best-practice methodology and the IESBA Code of Ethics and producing impactful audit reports that address the root cause of issues.
- Performing internal audits of the charity’s partners overseas to support senior management in achieving the Charity’s strategic objectives.
- Highlighting risks for inclusion in the Charity’s Risk Register as appropriate.
- Issuing periodic reports on audits assigned by senior management.
- Assisting in the investigation of suspected fraudulent activities in the Charity’s partner offices.
- Managing the allocation of internal audit processes effectively and continuously improving them.
- Undertaking any reasonable responsibilities as required by the line manager.
- Conducting audits and verifications on procurement and other project and finance-related areas.
- Preparing tailored plans for assignments based on a thorough understanding of the terms of reference and applicable contractual conditions.
- Participating in fieldwork teams on overseas assignments or working independently.
- Identifying issues and areas of non-compliance during assignments and documenting them clearly in assignment reports.
- Working to tight deadlines and managing time effectively.
- Engaging in frequent field visits to locations assigned by the charity.
- Demonstrating Muslim Hands’ values and ethics in all working practices, approaches, and conduct.
- Promoting and adhering to all Muslim Hands Policies, Procedures, and Professional Practices.
Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A professional accountancy qualification (part or full) such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent, with at least three years of proven NGO audit experience.
- Experience in assurance, controls, and compliance-related roles, including consulting, auditing, and risk management. This should include experience in conducting internal audits from initiation to completion
- Experience in evaluating control design and operating effectiveness within an internal control framework.
- Proven ability to create an effective risk-based audit plan aligned with the organisation’s strategy.
- A genuine interest in international development and a passion for international travel, preferably with experience of working or volunteering internationally.
- Proficiency in a second language, especially French or Arabic, is preferred but not essential.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to convey information professionally, constructively, and respectfully.
- Strong background and experience with audit methodologies and techniques.
- Strong time management and organisational skills.
- A commitment to ensuring assurance quality and compliance with policies and procedures.
- The ability to address finance, project finance and audit-related queries, concerns, and comments from external agencies, donors, and organisations efficiently and effectively.
- Knowledge of forensic auditing techniques in fraud prevention, deterrence, and investigation is desirable.
