How can you make a difference? 

Under close supervision of the Finance Officer NOB, the Finance Assistant, at the G-4 level, will perform a range of standardized financial clerical duties to support the UNICEF Country Programme.

The Finance Assistant will also provide accounting duties like release of payments, efficient financial recording, accounting and reporting, which in turn facilitates management oversight, decision making and quality control.

Summary of key functions/accountabilities:

1. Review payment requests to ensure their completeness, and accuracy before submission to the GSSC. Ensure the correct classification and recording of financial transactions.

2. Assist in preparation and disbursement of cheques with proper identifications of Payees and authorization letters where applicable. Raise receipts and other related processes in HACT Manager (Payment returns, refunds, etc…)

3. Act as the designated bank agent with our House banks. Maintains an enabling relationship with the said HBs to facilitate the smooth operations and relations with the banks. Assist onboarding Staff members with opening bank accounts.

4. Assist in performing HACT Financial Spot checks of Implementing Partners as required and assigned by the Quality Assurance team,

5. Maintains electronic accounting records and finance subject files by proper filing for easy retrieval of accounting data and references.

6. Backstops other roles as and when requested and assigned e.g the VAT recovery role, perform year end closure activities as assigned, etc…

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Minimum requirements:

  • Education: Completion of secondary education. Formal training in Finance and accounting for at least one year. Ability to operate PC, calculator or other machines used to maintain accounts.
  • Work Experience:  Four years general clerical experience, some of which should be in accounting clerical work.  A bachelor’s degree from a recognized academic institution in a field relevant to the position may replace three years of related work experience. A master’s degree may replace an additional two years.
  • Language Requirements: Fluency in English is required

Should you be selected for a position with UNICEF, you either must be inoculated as required or receive a medical exemption from the relevant department of the UN. Otherwise, the selection will be canceled.
