BACKGROUND
Purpose of Activity/ Assignment:
UNICEF has adopted a global Sustainability and Climate Change Action Plan (SCAthat marks a transformation of how the organization embeds sustainability and climate change in its programming and advocacy work. A key objective of the plan is to empower every child through their life course with the developmental opportunities, education, and skills to be a champion for the environment. Education is a central sector in and through which progress on the climate agenda for children can be achieved. Adapting essential social services, such as education are one of the best ways to reduce the vulnerability of children now, whilst equipping children with the education, skills and opportunities prepares them for a climate changed future.
The ConsultantClimate and Education Programmes and Partnerships, is crucial to the delivery on the ambitious results proposed under SCAP, which include working with partners with an aim to reach 500 million children in 100 countries with sustainability and climate education and directly reaching 50 million children in 60 countries with sustainability and climate education.

UNICEF is doubling down efforts to strengthen programmes and partnerships that translate into more climate resilient education systems. UNICEF’s work on climate change in education has four strategic pillars
Greening learning and skills: Increasing access to quality curriculum, learning materials and digital resources for children and youth to develop the necessary skills for future participation in the green economy
YouthLed climate Increase Youth engagement in climatesmart solutions and climate advocacy at local levels.
Scope of Work:
Under the supervision of the Senior Adviser for Education – Systems, and in close collaboration with relevant teams across the Education and Adolescent Development Section, Programme Group, Public Partnerships Division and Private Fundraising and Partnerships Division, the Consultant will provide strategic advice and support for the climate and education agenda, thus supporting UNICEF to scaleup its climate & education results. The Consultant will do this by supporting advocacy efforts during highlevel fora such as COP, resource mobilization, development of global public goods, and more as needed
Terms of Reference / Key Deliverables:
Deliverable 1: COP29 engagement delivery
COP29 HighLevel Roundtable on children, youth and climate action developed and conceptualized in collaboration with relevant teams across HQ divisions, regional offices, and country teams
Technical Advice on the Greening Teacher Training and Education Systems’ Capacities Working Group by the Senior Adviser supported, including providing coordination support with relevant stakeholders and inputs into relevant documents:
At least one multicountry proposal developed, including but not limited to activities and projected impact, cost estimates, target geographies and priority partners, supporting resource mobilization for Climate & Education and that can be adapted to multiple contexts. – By 31 March 2025

Education: Masters
Advanced university degree in education, environmental studies, climate policy/science, public policy, gender and development, international development, or related field
A PhD is desired.

Any emergent / unforeseen duty travel and related expenses will be covered by UNICEF
Payment of professional fees will be based on submission of agreed satisfactory deliverables. UNICEF reserves the right to withhold payment in case the deliverables submitted are not up to the required standard or in case of delays in submitting the deliverables on the part of the consultant.
U.S. Visa information:
With the exception of the US Citizens, G4 Visa and Green Card holders, should the selected candidate and his/her household members reside in the United States under a different visa, the consultant and his/her household members are required to change their visa status to G4, and the consultant’s household members (spouswill require an Employment Authorization Card (EAto be able to work, even if he/she was authorized to work under the visa held prior to switching to G

Individuals engaged under a consultancy will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverag. Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants. Consultants are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicabland health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fullyvaccinated status against SARSCoV2 (Covid19) with a World Health Organization (WHendorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
