How can you make a difference?

  1. Support the government and key Child Protection partners to review, strengthen and sustain community-based Child Protection mechanisms in a bid to deliver a defined package of Child Protection Services at the household and community level, coordinated by social service workforce with statutory case management responsibilities for child protection, and supported by auxiliary social workers.  This includes utilization of existing SOPs for case management, case coordination and referral procedures and protocols, and a supervision framework.
  2. Map out state institutions and educational structures that can undertake the training, continuing professional development, monitoring and follow up of auxiliary social workforce in select states
  3. Develop and roll out guidelines and a user-friendly capacity toolkit for supporting community-based Child Protection groups (CBCPG). The Guidelines will be accompanied by an Administrative Note which will be issued from the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs to all State Ministries of Women Affairs or relevant state entities informing them what needs to be done with regards to CBCPG.
  4. Pre-test the toolkit through the facilitation of a TOT workshop with key stakeholders and develop a capacity-building plan for a full roll-out of the programme.
  5. Develop a monitoring and evaluation framework with relevant tools.
  6. Lead and support the selection, recruitment and training of auxiliary social workers in select states that will support the work of community-based CP structures.
  7. Prepare and present a final report of the assignment.

To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…

Advanced University degree (Master/PG) in a relevant field of study (Degree in Social Service workforce, child protection) with minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.

•             Relevant experience in programme development in child protection related areas in a UN system agency or organization is considered as an asset.

•             A minimum of eight years of relevant professional experience in social service workforce strengthening, planning and management in child protection related areas is required.

•             Experience in system building of child protection systems in West Africa and/or other developing country will be considered an advantage;

•             Experience in both development and humanitarian contexts is considered as an added advantage

•             Excellent knowledge of the international and regional standards on social service workforce strengthening for child protection and international instruments on children rights;

•             Ability to work through networking and partnership

•             Excellent knowledge of statistics, social service systems, development agenda

•             Previous experience with UNICEF is an advantage.

•             Knowledge of human rights-based approach to programming

•             Experience in facilitating consultations with government representatives, NGOs, academia, children, adolescents, and other stakeholders

•             Fluency in English

•             Excellent writing skills

Individuals engaged under a consultancy or individual contract will not be considered “staff members” under the Staff Regulations and Rules of the United Nations and UNICEF’s policies and procedures, and will not be entitled to benefits provided therein (such as leave entitlements and medical insurance coverage). Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.

The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. Selected candidates are subject to confirmation of fully-vaccinated status against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid-19) with a World Health Organization (WHO)-endorsed vaccine, which must be met prior to taking up the assignment. It does not apply to consultants who will work remotely and are not expected to work on or visit UNICEF premises, programme delivery locations or directly interact with communities UNICEF works with, nor to travel to perform functions for UNICEF for the duration of their consultancy contracts.
